Anyone besides me ever use a Trapper Nelson wood-framed backpack? I'd forgotten they ever existed. No polymer or carbon fiber back-in-the-day on these babies. Wood, canvas and a bit of metal.

Blast from the past.
Heavy and not very comfortable, but useful.
The one I had got me and my stuff into the piney woods of South Jersey back then. Now you have me wondering where that thing went?
The aluminum framed pack I replaced it with fit better and was much lighter.

Yeah, not too comfortable is right. I don't do any hiking anymore, but it was certainly a different era then. We didn't think of any water source as undrinkable. No fancy cooking stove; you cooked over a fire using wood you found. The weight of items we brought wasn't much of a consideration. Canned foods and such.
