trigger guard hook questions

Does anyone know what year the for lack of better term "hook" or square was discotinued on the 6900 pistols? I have a deal pending on one in the low $300 range and was wondering what era it is from. Now I am not a big fan of the trigger guard, and has anyone tried to have one removed? If so, who would you recommend for such work.

Square trigger guard pistols with blade type rear sights were made from 1988 to early 1989. Those with Novak rear sights were made from late 1989 through 1990.
