It was a nice day here in Lynchburg, VA. I got the car and daughter and we went to the playground in the apartment complex. My daughter got to play and I got to detail the car. I enjoy cleaning my car, it is fun and it is therapy.
Picture this scene if you will. I am detailing a 2012 Nissan Versa hatchback and it is all black. You think of Nissan and you think Japanese car, but this car was made in Mexico. Now I am wearing an American Flag t-shirt and I have Weird Al cranked up via my iPod Touch. I have every album Weird Al has put out and they are all in a playlist and it was on shuffle.
His song Trigger Happy starts playing and for some reason people start walking by. Some are just walking, some are with their small dogs. Some men and some women. About ten of them just stop and stare. Some liked my clean and shiny black car and some had this look on their faces. Here I am cleaning on a Japanese car made in Mexico, wearing a flag shirt, listening to a goofy song about guns in the style of the Beach Boys. You just can not make stuff like that up, it was fantastic.
Turns out that on of the guys watching me is part of the service crew for the apartment complex. He started talking to me about guns and the American Flag and what I thought about them, etc. The guy told me that he recently did some side work for a guy who somehow or other had several American Flags around. The service guy was given three of them. I was offered one of them which he will bring to me Monday. He says they cost $60 each and it was given to him so he will pass one on to me. That is freakin' sweet. This all happened because of my t-shirt and a goofy Weird Al song. Who'da thunk it. Here is the song, enjoy:
