trigger jobs

I have three M&P pistols and have always wondered what a gritty trigger felt like. You read about it on this forum a lot. My triggers feel smooth. They do feel heavy and took some getting use too. I did improve my shooting with my 45 compact with the Apex job. It lightened the trigger and my shot pattern tightened. Now I think my Beretta 92A1 and 96A1 have a very smooth trigger, a much different feel or pull than the M&P. still love the M&P.

Trigger

I have had my 45C for 2 years now. When I first got it 7 plus pounds of trigger pull pretty crisp but almost 8 lbs.

The gritty trigger feel was evident right from the start.

I fired 500 rds through it and truly was hoping the really gritting felling would go away. As a defense pistol I could handle the trigger pull. I also dry fired it at least 500 times not much help there either.

Contemplated the Burwell mods but decided that maybe APEX was the way to go everyone that had used the kit liked the results.

I installed the DCAEK kit took my time about 1/2 hr I was good to go. Gritty feeling GONE trigger pull dropped to 5 1/2 pounds and has stayed there since. Didn't want to spend $90 more bucks on the pistol, likely will never get rid of it so it was money well spent.

I could have handled the trigger pull but that gritty feeling had to go.

I'll go no further with it I can do fine with the take up.

I personally don't feel that grittiness that others have experienced. I've put about 1000+ rounds through my FS .40 as of today. My only concern is that after firing my friends 1911 followed by my M&P, I want a trigger pull like his 1911. Would that be achieved with the AEK trigger or with the DCAEK? Or both?

Just shot 500 rounds with my 40c today. The trigger is fine except for the reset. I have zero feel for the trigger reset and feel I need to completely release it for it to reset which makes rapid fire difficult.

All I want is a positive feel to the reset versus the mushy feel you have now.

I will be looking for alternatives or sending to S&W for its performance center trigger job

I can do fine with the take up.

For me, that was the key to shooting my Shield 9mm well.
Getting a handle on the take up. Once that was accomplished, accuracy level increased dramatically.

The "grittyness" is a non factor to me.

My experience with my 45 midsize was very similar to yours. I
ran about 500 round through it in about a year & a half with the Dot Torture Drill being my breaking point. I expected to do much better with the drill and was somewhat disappointed with my results. I put the apex sear & USB in it and WOW!!!! What a difference. The trigger was a bit light for me so I had my buddy install the Mass Compliant trigger return spring. So now instead of shooting it every 3rd or 4th range trip, I look forward to shooting it EVERY range trip minimum 100 rounds. To each his own. I'm quite happy with it :) ,just need more ammo to feed it

Happy Shooting

Smith & Wesson did change the trigger, they call it the Pro model. They changed the sights, put in a better sear and charge a lot more for it. The trigger on a pro is better than a non-pro (in my hands anyway) but neither are as good as APEX.

In a world of cookie cutter products customization is gold. The aftermarket world drives guns sales and gun sales drive the aftermarket world. If people used to Glock's trigger won't covert to the M&P because of it then you come up with a product that makes it equal to or better than a Glock trigger. This converts people, increases sales, etc., etc.
My M&P pro 40 was the worst trigger I have ever shot on any M&P. I had to send it back to smith and wesson and it much better now. My pro series was very gritty.

I'm with Dean, did the Burwell DIY trigger job on my .40

Little time and patience with my dremel did wonders for me. Got rid of the grittiness and eliminated the over-travel. Never really noticed any lightening of the trigger pull though. More than happy with the end result with zero cost.

It all boils down to personal preference,
