I have a 340 PD that has a pretty smooth trigger. I had a local gunsmith work on the action before I knew much about how a S & W revolver works.

After dry firing 100-200 times, the trigger has stiffened up to where an extra amount of force is required to get it moving. It is very noticeable. This happened once before after dry firing and then went away. Any ideas?

A) Needs lubrication

B) He stoned through the case-hardening into the soft core of the trigger.

B will require a new trigger & possibly hammer. Try A first.

The "problem" seems to be intermittent. Will clean and lubricate, but, this happened before and then went away without any further action. Odd.

I've had something similar happen to a revolver. Occasionally the action would bind up and then return to normal. Upon dis assembly I discovered a flake from the nickle platting had gotten between the cylinder and the yoke. A good cleaning restored normal function.
