trigger pin back out

Shot about 350 rounds through the S&W SD9. My gun has about eight hundred rounds through it so far and not a single malfuntion. I was just about done my session when I noticed that the trigger pin had slid out to the left about half way. The gun was still firing fine. I saw the pin out of the corner of my eye ( I am a lefty), and stopped immediately. I pushed the pin back in and stopped shooting. When I got home I tore the gun apart I wanted to make sure that either the pin was installed correctly or hadn't broken and found that neither was the case. I cleaned the gun while it was completely apart. Put the pistol back together and heard a click when the pin was positioned correctly. I have no idea how this pin jumped the middle spring in the trigger but it did. Everything seemed fine, I even checked the block to make sure it didn't crack. I don't know if this was a fluke or has others had this happen. I can't believe how closely this gun is like a Glock. If the pin jumped on the 9mm I wonder how the 40 S&W guns perform? Much more recoil. I varied my loads that day mostly 147, 115 and some 124 Nato ball, no +p's.

i had a very similar thing happen to me yesterday with my sigma sw9ve.had shot a little over 3 mags thru it when i somehow noticed the trigger pin protruding out the left side of the gun.i have had this gun for over 2 years,never a problem,shoots everything i put in it.it was more than a little disturbing.i have no idea why or maybe just a fluke thing but just wanted to let you know you are not alone.gotta be a reason...

This is the little button under your slide. it prvents the firing pin from moving forward except for when you pull the trigger. I forgot what it is called, maybe the firing pin stop. What is happening is the button has a spring on it and it is getting a little gummed up. Just take your striker assembly out and spray some WD-40 or Break-free in there and swish it around and then clean the exess out with a pipe cleaner. Your priblem should be cleared up. If that does not work you may need to remove it and clean the spring by hand and re-assemble. Try that and then re-post.

Vextor 16 you have me confused a bit. What does the firing pin drop safety have to do with the trigger pin? By the way I did take the gun completely apart including the striker. Cleaned it up. I noticed that the trigger pin is tight now but can't have that pin walking on me again. I wanted to see if anyone else had this problem. What surprised me was the fact that this is a two pin gun even in 40 cal. Glock used a two pin gun when they only had the 9mm caliber but when they went over to the forty they needed that third pin in the block. I wonder how S&W is getting away with a two pin gun in their 40 caliber SD's ?

coco, you are talking about pin that the trigger return spring is attached to, if so I had something simular happen with my SD9, I just reset the pin and am watching it for now, I dont think it will be an issue if so contact customer service.

Yes that's the pin the one with trigger and spring rides on. It walked out to the left on me and I am going to keep an eye out for it when I go shooting again. The pin it'self is not very tight in the frame it's the spring and slide catch spring which holds it in the gun. Did your gun do the same thing?

Yep, if you view the APEX spring upgrade video you will see just how easily that pin comes out. Not sure if mine back out due to me not using good trigger techniques, but i haven't had an issue since

How about using a dab of blue lock tight to hold the pin in?

I had the same problem but did not want to send my new gun back for a 3 week repair when I only had the gun for a week and only shot it 2 times = after going back and forth with service about how busy they are I figure they have alot of problems if they are that busy fixing repairs, i would assume they have a seperate repair place from their manufacturing facility but they said they were busy making guns so it would be 3 weeks. I nicely suggested that they supply superglue with their new guns. It seems like an easy fix if that is the only problem I say stop manufacturing and fix it before the guns leave the factory? Love the gun but really have to watch that trigger pin.

I see you revived my old thread. Might as well do an update on my sd9.
I now have 1800 or more rounds through my sd9 without any issues at all.
No more issues at all and the gun shoots better now then ever. It cuts the center right out of the target. I liked this gun so much I bought an sd40 to go with it. The sd40 has 300 flawless rounds now with no issues. I have to say that I am a big glock guy but I now carry the sd9 for work, I love the sd series that much. I wrote to S&W about my thoughts on the gun and they are sending me a ball cap. I have had others guys on other sites tell me that the M&P is far superior and argue with me about a gun they never shot. I prefer the sd series over the M&P and when you have flawless pistols and a lifetime service warranty, and fits you like a glove, plus cuts centers out of your target what more can you ask of a handgun.
