Does anyone have a procedure on the best way to put your trigger return spring back in on top breaks? I can remove every part including pins and all parts and put them back together faster than to put the trigger return spring and trigger guard in!!!! This has got to be the worst design I have ever seen! I have rebuilt over a dozen top breaks and I fight with this every time!

I just cleaned up a snub-nosed 38 Safety and can remember how I got everything back together. I have a set of wood jaws for my vise and find the really work well for compressing the trigger guard without damaging the finish. First, make sure the trigger if pulled all the way forward, then drop the spring into the trigger guard. Fit the trigger guard into the front slot on the frame and make sure the spring is setting on the front lip of the trigger. Hold the trigger guard, applying enough pressure to keep the spring in place. Place the trigger guard in the jaws of the vise and compress. Rotate the gun until the back notch is in place in the slot. Back off the vise and you should be all set.

I am sure there ae many other methods, but this one works for me.

I've used the same method as Gary, except when I was younger I just squeezed the trigger guard by hand. If the spring isn't in contact with the trigger when you put the T.G. back on, it won't work, so be sure there's good contact. Ed.

I also compress the trigger guard by hand. But I haven't done it in years. I may be weaker now, and unable to do it. as is the case with many other things I used to do.

The one I am referring to is for the D/A guns. The safety hammerless trigger springs are easy to get in compared to the D/A springs.
