Trigger stops and the M15...

I believe they did. To check that, I looked up the page with the illustrated parts break down in the Kuhnhausen S&W Shop Manual. Page 113 shows a trigger stop consisting of a small metal piece and a screw. It was not specific to the M-15. I have one if you need one.

I don't require one, but thanks. My 'new' M15 has one and I couldn't recall if it was standard equipment or not. Thanks.

dogsoldier,

All target sighted K-frames, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 48, 53, their stainless steel equivelents, etc. had the trigger stop. Supposedly guns ordered by a LE agency could be supplied without the stop installed, but the would come with the cut for it and the screw installed. Most former LE guns found without the stop had it removed by the dept. armorer or the user.

If this is true that all target-sighted K frames have a trigger stop, then how come I have a 4" 19-4 nickle, and a 4" 67-1 that DON'T have trigger stops? Former LE guns possibly ( they're not marked)?

Pedersoli I have a L Frame CS-1/MOD686 that I would like to have a trigger stop for, Can't stand to see that gash in the frame unfilled plus wouldn't mind having less overtravel.
I'll email you, Hopefully you might even have a stainless one too..

Back in the 1970's, an advisory came out from the S&W Factory concerning Trigger Stops on K-frame revolvers with target sights. The concern was that, under certain circumstances, the trigger stop could loosen up and become jammed causing the weapon to be unable to fire from either the single action or double action mode. The recommendation was to remove the trigger stop for weapons used for law enforcement or personal protection. Personally, I have fired tens of thousands of rounds from a Model 19, two Model 15's, a Model 18, a Model 66 and Model 67, all with trigger stops installed, and never had a problem.

Beginning in the early 80's, K frames were shipped from the factory without the trigger stop, but retaining the cut in the frame for the stop. I have a 19-5 so equipped. I really like the trigger stop feature, so I installed a N frame style stop in the gun which consists of a carefully fitted pin inside the rebound spring housing.
I owned and shot a 19-2 or -3 and a 17-4 with the other style stop for years with no problems. I actually prefer this style stop.

According to the Kuhnhausen Manual, the trigger stop design was changed to correct the lock up problem. My 1984 no dash 586 has the new design trigger stop. SCSW states that the 6" barrel 586s had the trigger stop as factory standard and that the stop was adjustable, but mine is not. Another SCSW error?

No trigger stops on my 2 15's. a 15-3, and a 15-7. No stops. One is a 4" and one is a 2". Go figure.

I personally have run into 2 M-15's (4") that had a fastener failure for the trigger stop tie up the actions. In one, the fastener had separated into "3's", when disassembled. The screw head, shank and protrusion on that one, were all still in their respective positions when examined. Under recoil, they would shimmy around enough to jam up trigger return. That last one was an LEO (retired WSP, first owner) gun. The first was a former LEO gun, working on it's second or third owner.

Did all M15s come from the factory with trigger stops?

My recollection is that S&W stopped putting trigger stops in LE guns after the trigger stops were found to be a problem in the early to mid-70s. I seem to recall that even after S&W redesigned the K frame trigger stops, 4 inch guns would have nothing in the little cut out behind the trigger because the part was intentionally left out, although I might be wrong on my memory.

Here is a picture of the trigger stop on my Model 67.
