A little googlin and I see more than one post on the net saying the M&P15 trigger is roughly 9lb pull. Would that be reasonably accurate?

I've owned my M&P15 for about 9 months. Long enough apparently to have learned my shooting will likely improve with a better trigger.

The drop in trigger replacement path seems a good road to follow. For your money you get a known entity tested and verified by the maker. No variables introduced by a self install of an aftermarket parts package.

One I like has options in 4.5 lb 4.0 lb and 3.0 lb. But I'm not seeing any but the 3lb option for sale.

I'm concerned 3.0 lbs is just weeeee bit light.

I just picked up a GEISSELE SSA trigger. They are great triggers. The SSA-E trigger set-up allows for an even lighter pull at around 3.5lbs.

I bought a RRA National Match trigger for my Colt and it's fantastic. I still think the Sport trigger is actually pretty good comparatively speaking.

RRA two stage NM trigger is my favorite also. I've got them in three of my AR's.

My wife uses a stock trigger in her AR. It breaks at about 7lbs., but there is no creep and the break is like the proverbial "glass rod". You can deal with a heavy trigger if it is crisp.

To answer this question, My M&P 15 has a 7 lb 0 oz pull. My M&P 10 has a 6 lb 13 oz pull. Close enough that I can safely report both my S&W rifles have a 7 LB trigger pull. I like reading these trigger threads as I'd like to replace both of mine. I lean to the Wilson Combat TTU but have to decide trigger or food

I could live with that very well. My stock M&P15-22 trigger is around 7 lbs. and no creep like you described.:)
However the stock trigger in the M&P15 OR was 9 miles of gravel road:( that didn't get any better with use,
thus the Wilson 4 lb. TTU. :)

Ok so maybe my stock trigger is closer to 7 lbs. Whatever it is it's ticking me off because it seems like forever till it breaks.

I was looking at Velocity. I've no doubt the Wilson Combat is everything that review said it was but I have the trigger or food problem too. And a wife that expects me to grill a steak now and then.

I wrote Tom Vehr at Velocity but didn't get anything out of that, basically seems like I could drop $450 trying to find the best one. And to be fair that would be true of any other trigger from anyone else. This is where a good local LGS beats online any day. I want to feel a 3 lb and a 4.5 lb and see what I like.

Time IS money in a way but the 15 min trigger upgrade suggested by Rastoff seems a good investment until the sock drawer has the funds to swing a Wilson or an RRA.

ARs ain't cheap. Drop $1k on just the rifle, $300 trigger, $600 red dot, $600 for a couple cases of ammo... $2,500 before you even get to the range... and we ain't even talked about mags, sling, stock, grip... and all the other little goodies you end up clicking the buy button on while chatting on the Net and looking through the AR pic thread. Then you want to SBR and get a can... another $1k. Prospective AR buyers ought to plan on Top Ramen and Mac&Cheese dining :D.

Lol....and that's why I like my sub-moa $250 bolt gun....

But I do want an AR lol

If you learn to shoot well with a stock trigger a good after market trigger will really improve your accuracy. Don't just look at pull weight, smooth and repeatable are more important for me. Too light can be dangerous.

I hear ya.

$250 or more for a trigger is a lot to plop down.

Here's a good write-up about Wilson Combat TTU. Notice what he's saying about some bang-zoom save-a-buck triggers.

Wilson Combat Tactical Trigger Unit (10,000 trips of the trigger)

That was a good read. Makes me want that TTU even more.

Get the trigger. Back when I was young the wife and I would eat beans ans corn bread for weeks so we could afford the trigger. Don

Now there's a keeper wife for sure! :)

I'd be interested how it turns out if you do it. We've all spent a LOT of money on this hobby. And that is what it is right now - just a hobby. So many vices and so little time LOL.

I just dropped in a Geissele G2S. It is as smooth and crisp as any trigger I've pulled, including the top-of-the-line Geissele's. $165 well spent.

I have a Geissele SSA-E in one rifle, SSA in another and the G2S in my Sport.

All of them are rock solid. The difference is actually slight but noticeable. Its not so much trigger pull weight as it is crispness of the break. The SSA-E is a candy cane like break and the best of the three, but it cost the most.

I can't recommend then enough.

I personally would not put an "adjustable" trigger in a rifle you might use for self defence. My OCD would have me tweaking that thing until it barely worked but gave me the lightest pull
