I have an issue with the transfer bar on my Model 41-1 (22 short) with an alloy slide.

The shape of the transfer bar is more of a chisel (beveled on top) shape on the model 41-1 and not on the Model 41 (see photos) photo on left is the Model 41, middle photo is the 41-1.
My slide is getting gouged by the bar and loosing material as per photo.

Also, I found an article showing a third shape that is more rounded over.

What is with the "chisel" shape? How can this be corrected before it ruins my slide??

I would call Smith & Wesson Service tomorrow and tell them about your problem. They should be happy to help you.

Charlie,
I called S&W today....was told to put the pistol in my safe.....they said that each trigger bar is "fit" to the gun and will vary in shape when fitted.

They claim that the metal bar and alloy slide is not a good match and that the alloy is bound to wear.

I dissagree.....and I am a little dissappointed at what I was told!

Charlie: first thing is to STOP shooting the gun until we can figure this out. ACtually I am not surprised at S&W's answer. None the less, It appears you have a clearance issue.
I am thinking:
1.someone swapped out the transfer bar without checking the clearances and fitting the transfer bar

2. The slide could be damaged, like it was dropped on its side. Check that the two sides are parallel.
Do you have another 41? FAmiliarize yourself with the disassembly so we can pull the transfer bar and try another one. If it comes down to the transfer bar, order one from Brownell's, fit it, file to achieve clearance.
If you would like, I would be willing to sit down on the phone, pull out my 41-1's, and we could compare. This gun needs to be shot, not sitiing in the safe........Good luck........shooter92 ...pm sent

Transfer bar

Thank you for the info....I will check all that you have mentioned this evening and report back.

If you look at the photos in my original post, you can see the "chisel" shape to the transfer bar. That photo is from my Model 41-1....

The other photo shows the bar from my Model 41 and it has a sharp pointed shape, but not the bevel as does the 41-1

You can also see the photo of the slide showing the small amount of material that has been scraped off by the transfer bar.
