Does anyone know what the single action trigger weight on a new 686 is supposed to be. I have not measured it with a scale but mine seems very light. I am fairly new to shooting revolvers single action. I am used to shooting double action only revovers and partially cocked striker fired guns so maybe I am overreacting. Not what I would call a hair trigger but just a slight amount of pressure sets it off. Thanks

Three to four pounds will feel pretty light in single action. 2.5 pounds is the minimum allow in PPC Distinguished Revolver, other disciplines call for 3.5 pounds. A smooth yet crisp 2.5 pounds will feel like much less. You'll only be able to tell with a set of trigger weights.

With the gun unloaded and your finger off the trigger check to see if you can apply moderate pressure to the hammer and get it to release. If you CAN'T get the hammer to "push off" than you are ok.

Single action in a revolver is pretty much for target shooting. For defensive purposes you would usually only be using double action mode.

Thanks for the info. The hammer will not fall just by pushing on it. It takes a deliberate squeeze of the trigger but a very light squeeze. I checked another 686 at a gun shop and it felt about the same. Its different though when you're actually shooting and it goes off so easily. This thing is really smooth even in double action. I'm just not used to such a smooth light trigger. I guess this justifies more ammo and more range time.

With stock springs:

SA pull maybe 3.5 - 4.5#

DA pull 12 - 14#

If yours has a "smooth light DA pull" then it has lightened springs in it. The SA pull could be as low as 2 - 2.5#
