TRIGGER WORK, WHO NEEDS IT?

When posting about my new Mika's Pocket Holster, I had it
pictured with a new M442. The 442 had the usual stock pull,
rough and heavy. So, just to take a page from others here, I decided to
get to work with some old snap-caps, and see what happened and when.
It's taken me three days to get 1,000 dry-fires, and about #500, I
noticed that there had been a change. The action was much smoother,
and while the pull is still fairly heavy, the smoothness makes it seem
much lighter. It's about equivalent to a 642 that I've been using for
maybe 10 years.
So, for all you dry-fire proponents on the Forum, I WAS listening, and you ARE vindicated, in my mind, anyway.
Too bad for my 'smith, though. Now he'll have to work on a rifle
sight, instead.

Brownells actually sells compound that you combine with mineral spirits (I think) and introduce into the action, side plate off. I read a test of it, and it just made sence, and is something many of us could do. I haven't tried it yet, but I've got a couple of good candidates in mind! Flapjack

I do my "action jobs" the fun way, just take them to the range and run 500 rounds through them, repeat often After a few 1,000 you notice the difference.

The only Smith I worked was a 10-14, and all I did was drop in new springs and I shoot it whenever I can. There's a little "drag" in the trigger return but hopefully it will work itself in.

I normally DO NOT do action jobs on carry guns, just break 'em in as you fellas have stated above - shoot 'em!

I do however own a few "target only" designated guns that after a thorough break in period have been slicked up to function reliably, but have effortless actions. I also make it a habit of putting a letter in the gun box of those slicked up guns that states that they have lightened actions and SHOULD be used for RANGE USE ONLY! I also take any original Factory parts and springs that have been replaced in the gun and attach them to the letter in a small zip lock bag (coated with RIG) so that who ever comes to own this gun in my absence can easily replace the gun to Factory spec's and use it for defensive purposes if they desire, but at the very least, they understand what has been done to that particular gun.

Update on 442

Managed to get in some range time with 442 and the older 642.
Need to keep my so-called skills working. I see that there's a
little hitch just before trigger breaks that's pronounced enough to tempt me to "stage" my shots. Managed to ignore it and pull straight thru.
Cripes! I put different grips on it and it's still worse than the 642.
Not incapacitating, but uncomfortable. Will try Hogue Bantams tomorrow. TACC1
