A while back when I got my 40FS I mentioned I thought the stock trigger was both gritty and mushy compared to my XDm-40. The responses were split with half saying get the Apex kit and half saying give the stock trigger time. Well I've given the stock trigger some time, and I'm happy to report it has indeed smoothed out quite a bit after only 300 rounds. I'm gonna stick with it.

The gun has also been flawless in operation.

That's good to hear, I was considering buying the Apex Sear kit but I think I'll give it some break in time first to see what I think of it. If we can ever get some good weather I will be able to actually go out and shoot!

another alternative is doing the Burwell trigger job.
S&W M&P Trigger Job

I did not touch the sear on mine, but polished the trigger bar face and rounded the firing pin block somewhat...about 60% the amount shown in the above link..and it made a noticeable difference.
Really easy to do this, the only problem is in re-assembling the little spring and plate... it's a pain in the *** to keep it all in one place while putting it together. I did finally figure out the easy way to do it though, after nearly losing the spring twice !! LOL

Yes after over 1000 rounds I am fine with the stock trigger on my M&P but have to admit I never had anything bad to say about it really.

My 40 smoothed out considerably over time, but I still put in the DCAEK as I prefer the shorter over travel.

My 9F has about 700 rounds thru it and the stock trigger breaks at 4 1/2 pounds. With a reset that was more definite it would be about perfect.

I put 900 rounds through mine before I could get the cash together for an FSS kit. The trigger did smooth out some, but the APEX kit simply changed the entire gun.

Seriously, just order the FSS and a RAM. Its worth every penny.

My first M&P was a full size 9mm that I bought with the Apex DCAEK installed. I love it! I just bought a 40c yesterday, and the trigger is very gritty. (although I haven't even shot it yet.) I may wait to put a couple of hundred rounds through it and see just how much it smooths out, and then decide if I want the Apex or not.

I got a good one, the trigger was decent from the get go, not monarchy or gritty like some others I have felt.. Or so I thought, but I just got a Ruger Mk III target competition model. Now I want so badly to do something to the M&P!

You have made an excellent point, Lots of guys that shoot and say their trigger smoothed out or it was acceptable from the start, have never ever been exposed too a really fantastic trigger so you have to weigh their opinion. I think once someone sticks a pistol thats had the trigger worked on like a burwell job or an apex kit they would be singing a different tune! 1000 rounds to smooth out a trigger if you bought that much ammo it cost's a bit over $200.00 @ $10.00 a box. to get what an ok trigger! I'm sorry but give me the nice trigger right off the bat and then the ammo I expend for practice isn't wasted. Your on the right track, get that M&P tricked out, and the you'll find that your accuracy and control will improve dramatically. Good luck with your M&P! I love mine!

I agree, better to spend 200 on an APEX FSS/RAM, than to shoot 200$ worth of ammo into the 8 o'clock position on your targets.

Until I got the trigger, I was seriously considering trading my pro 5" in for an XDM 5.25.

I have not been to their site but did APEX prices go up, I paid about 94.00 for the complete kit for my 9L. Like you I have to find the funds to do my 40c.

it was the Duty carry Kit I think it was about 90.00 plus shipping and then I order the RAM seperate and I thought it was about 20.00!

the ram is now 26 shipped, I think the duty carry is 84.

The FSS is a completely different beast.

If you order the DCAEK from Midway it is $89, but the shipping(USPS) is cheaper than Apex's. It's like $4 and change. I did the RAM as well, except in the .45's. That reset is much better and you get the benefit of being able to cycle the trigger with a broken trigger spring.

I have to pickup one of these in 45, the internals must be a bit different. If it doesn't have a ram what part makes it a safe action pistol?

The hinged trigger and the striker block. The RAM, or Reset Assist Mechanism primarily gives a much more positive feel to the trigger reset. The. 45's have a different sear block and no version of the RAM will fit.

I've put 750 rounds thru my M&P40c and it is breaking in very nicely at this point, all the parts are getting burnished from use - even the feed ramp is starting to show a nice glean. really pleased with this pistol, it will be my everyday carry.
