I like Wilson. That being said, I have 4 older Wilson magazines that have been refurbished with Tripp rebuild kits. They have been perfect for 3 years now.
I think either one would work just fine. If I buy any new magazines I will buy the one I can get for the best price.

I am unaware and unfamiliar with Tripp so I can't comment on them. I do own some Wilson Magazines and they have always worked well with zero issues. Some of my favorite 1911 magazines are Colt marked. They were given to me just a few years ago. I am aware Colt doesn't make their own magazines, but don't know who exactly made the ones I was given. I will say they are about the best I've ever had!

As I set my son up with 1911's the were given one Wilson (top of the line) Magazine to use as a diagnostic tool (not for daily shooting)!

Having one "absolutely perfect" magazine allows you to tell if your FTF's and some other problems are magazine related. But in my opinion, with a proper assembled and sprung 1911 you normally don't need $40 mags!

Wilsons are the gold standard. Short of damaging them somehow, they typically won't fail or wear out. There's likely less than 1% of us that shoot so much as to wear the mags out.

I've used Tripp's plenty as well but, they are pricey compared to the Wilsons. People that complain about the cost of a Wilson? Have you ever shopped for a factory Sig magazine as well? Good mags are worth the price most of the time.

The Tripp's are one of the few that I'd say cost more than they should. That said, they also work very well.

I've got a .357sig Nighthawk and found the Tripp mags were the most reliable in that odd caliber/gun combination, so for that one, I had to eat the cost and just buy those.

I used Tripp mags for a Les Baer .45 which I carried on duty as a LEO. Wilson mags were unreliable and I never used Wilson mags again.

I think Wilson magazines are about the best out there now. In my group of 1911 magazines most are Wilson. You can’t go wrong with them I think.
But like anything that you use a lot you will have some problems when the springs wear and the slide lock notch become worn they will need to be refurbished.
Tripp makes a good rebuild kit for 1911 magazines. I have rebuilt 4 Wilson’s with them. Like some things today you use what you can get.
I don’t own any Tripp magazines, so I can’t comment on them.

Sometimes a picture will show things better than my explanation, so…
Here is a picture of the follower with the metal “insert” on the Tripp rebuild kit. On my Wilsons this is polymer and will wear out eventually.
Time will tell if this is going to last longer. So far, so good.

I have about eight assorted Wilson 45 magazines. The only one to ever give me trouble was one of the $50 Vickers Tactical Mags. The regular ETM and 47Ds have all been perfect. I have three Tripp Cobra 9mm magazines that have been perfect.
