I have been looking for a tritium front sight for my 3" 686 Plus and so far it is not clear that any I have looked at are an easy installation. I need an easy installation as I lack a good gunsmith in my area.

I prefer white, with green my next choice. Does someone have a suggestion?

My Model 686-6+ is fitted with an inexpensive SDM fiber optic front and that works fine for me. I'm far from being an expert on tritium sights, but here are some possibilities: Hi Viz, MEPRO, and XS Sights make tritium sights for S&W revolvers, but I don't know which models or about fitment (DIY or gunsmith).

I'd like to find one too for my 686. I've also looked for a tritium sight for a Dan Wesson TCP without any luck. I've looked and contacted all the top names.

I’ve had Trijicon install tritium sights on several S&W Revolvers and they do an excellent job. I removed the cylinder and sent the revolver to them. Call and talk to them 800-338-0563.

I have used Tritium sight inserts that replaced the red/orange plastic and drop right into the shallow angled dovetail. They work great!

What make and model, and where did you buy them?

Here's an XS Tritium sight on my 686-6 3". I am colorblind and don't always see red/orange. These sights stand out to me in bright or dark conditions.

Did you have any difficulty with installment?

sjs,
I'm not sure if you have purchased or installed a new sight(s) yet but I think the XS set with the pre-drilled front blade is the way to go. I like their Minimalist set with both front and rear sights (front can be green or orange). If you can tap out the front pin and turn a screwdriver this will be easy, and a big improvement.

Hapworth posted a link to the product, and here's the one for your 686 on XS Sight's website...

The 686-6 in my post has a three-tritium setup by D&L Sports ($$$). I installed the rear but paid my gunsmith to drill and install the front ($12). I had previously installed a tritium front sight on my 640 (stainless J-frame) but I wouldn't advise doing that without the proper jig/vice adapter to hold the revolver steady while drilling.

I did purchase the XS set with pre-drilled blade. It is supposed to be here today. I lack much in the way of tools and mechanical aptitude, but I am hoping I can manage this.

Almost all my shooting these days is indoors and the light is terrible. I have the mounting plate for a red dot if I need it but I hate to put one on this beautiful revolver. Iron sights are so much more fun to use.

I called the XS folks to ask some questions and they were very helpful.

I very much appreciate all the help I got on this. I will let you know how it turns out.
