Just North of here in the Sandia Foothills is the Village of Placitas.
It started life as a Traditional Hispanic village, grazing, logging, wood cutting, etc.
During the 60s New Mexico was a heavy duty Hippie location, and Placitas had a significant Hippie presence.
Then some Smart Folks solved the bad water problem. There are coal seams there providing that good old sulphur taste. Combine good water with great views, good location, relatively cheap land - get out of the way!
Them Yuppie Puppies will run you over! It’s become a High End Bedroom Community. You read about NM Poverty, then see those Million Dollar Houses high on hills! Who the Hell are these People?
I go there to photo the wild-feral horses who roam freely.
And just the other day - I learn that B B King performed there!
Really? Apparently so!
‘The legendary BB King performed in Placitas as part of a month-long 'Woodstock on Wheels' international tour produced by Warner Brothers in 1970, footage of which eventually became a feature film directed by 28 year old Martin Scorsese. This slice of New Mexico music history is brought to us from the photo archives of the Albuquerque Museum narrated by Digital Archivist Jill Hartke in their podcast series.’
