Okay gentlemen. I'm watching the movie called The Shooter. with Mark Wahlberg.

Who knows the name of the old gunsmith they visited in Tenn., and why is he famous?

I have Levon's 2009 solo album, "Dirt Farmer", recorded after he came back (for a while) from throat cancer. Really wonderful stuff. He was one of the great ones, in my opinion. May have to find "Electric Dirt" and the live album at the Ryman too.

Man, I miss Levon. Nobody did "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" like The Band!

You got that right! The first version I remember hearing was Joan Baez"s(?). Then when I heard Levon & The Band doing the song, I was blown away!:cool:

Well, The Band did it first. Typically, Baez misheard lyrics and incorporated them into her version: "till SO MUCH cavalry came" instead of "till STONEMAN'S cavalry came." Ignorance and arrogance are a sad combination, and Joanie had 'em both.

I'm sure you're correct. I'm also pretty sure that the Joan Baez version got a lot more AM airplay, which is why I heard it first.

Okay, you had me almost headed to the attic for my copy of Stephen Hunter's novel that the movie was made from, 'til I realized you were looking for the actor's name.:D

You can't fully appreciate this without knowing how much I hate going up in my attic!

There's trivia, and then there's trivia, cowboy.;)

"Levon Helm" was his real name, too, and not a stage name. Born in Elaine, Arkansas and grew up in Turkey Scratch, Arkansas. That's just too good. Long live The Band!!!

Had to watch the movie again since you brought it up.

This time I realized in one scene he was wearing an Eagles jacket.
A la Invincible. I love finding new things when watching a movie again.

Youre right. I never made that connection, but now I do.

I love to catch the little things in movies. Sometimes after many viewings.
