They don't really want to work... they just want someone to give them money. Just look at the kids that "work" at wal-mart. If you even look like you might ask them a question, they run and hide...that is when they're not talking on their cell phones and ignoring everyone.

I'm looking for a part-time worker right now. Yesterday, a young man came in for an application, with one ear hooked into his I-Pod and asked if it would be a problem if he worked while he listened to his I-Pod.
However -- he wanted this position for his 2nd job and he was listening to a Civil War history book.
I asked him to come back Monday for the 2nd round interview. He's one of my top 4 picks.

I see many of these "kids" who try to get into law enforcement every day. Don't get me wrong, there are some very good young people out there, but after interviewing, teaching, and training hundreds of them each year I am very concerned with the overall batch that have entered the work force in the past decade and all I can say is; please God, help our country 10 years from now.

I read this when it was in the WSJ about 1.5 years ago. I was born in the late 70s so I dont perfectly fit the guideline, but i dont think this is 100% true. i have worked basically full time since i was 15, sometimes 2 jobs and paid my way through college. everything i have i earned myself. I will tell you something that grinds me is that once you get into a company and they only give you 2% raise a year, why should I stay when i can leave and do a comparable job for a significantly higher base pay ? so the rap on young people bouncing jobs isnt ALL their fault. woul'd be nice to stay at 1 job for 30 years but unless your government, those days are pretty much gone.
When this article was written ~1.5 years ago the job market was a lot better. i bet the attitudes of many of these kids has changed dramatically.
