Anyone have a hard time removing the roll pin from the gas block? I wasn't sure if it had to come out from a specific side. I tried using a punch to get it out but the only punch i had broke when i was hammering on it.

The pin on the Sport is directional. I would be guessing that the 10 would be the same.

If it's the roll pin holding the gas tube to the gas block, no it's not directional. Now that you have broken a punch off in there I suspect trouble. I broke one on just recently. Had to get a new gas tube, just left the old tube attached to the old block. I tried with a new punch and some heavy hits with a hammer, once the punch was broken off inside that pin would not budge. Get a new tube, the proper size punch and call it a 20$ lesson.

There was a thread about this last year. Not sure how much light was shed on the topic. I ended up drilling mine out. Got lucky i guess and no damage to the gas block or gas tube. It ended up pushing out while i was drilling so i didnt drill it out completely.

I took it over to my buddy over at rebelarms.com today and he was able to get it out using another better punch. He also gave me a good deal on a really nice low-pro gas block. Tomorrow I get the barrel threaded and hopefully I will have the whole top together. Now if only my local gun shop would get my PRS in.

The original gas block on my M&P 10 is a stepped hole. The 3/32" punch fits nicely in the hole but the pin is smaller than 3/32". After tying from both sides with the 3/32" punch with no luck and almost getting the punch stuck I tried the 1/16". The pin popped right out. With the pin and gas tube removed I cleaned the hole. The 3/32" punch will only go in about an 1/8" each side until it hits the step.

I don't know about all of yours, but my M&P had red Loctite on the end of the tube. I had to drill mine out.
