I'm trying to find a western that I watched on TV probably the the late 70's. I remember a sheriff, several men, and a woman in a white dress traveling through the desert, where two of the men die. At the end, the sheriff survives and carries the woman into a town, where he lays her down (in a saloon?) and walks off, flinging away his badge.

The sad thing is, I found the movie on youtube a long time ago but have since forgotten it yet again. Does this one ring a bell with anyone?

Your plot is sorta, kinda in the neighborhood of John Wayne's The Train Robbers. But still way off in plot.

Was it this movie? I believe the woman in the movie is Gary Cooper's newlywed wife, thus the wedding dress.

Very similar in some ways! But that one has a big shootout in town and no desert crossing scenes. The one I'm thinking of has the sheriff walking off alone after reaching the town and placing the woman down, and I was always unsure if she had survived or not. Both films have the sheriff discarding his badge at the conclusion, but mine didn't have a happy ending vibe.
I'm thinking mine was also a bit newer, likely in color from the late 60's/early 70's.

I would not disagree, for sure, but I like his early spaghetti westerns, and I think they are classics of the genre. (The genre being Westerns.)
