I put a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot on the top rail of my M&P15 Sport, and while it works great, it moves forward and backwards just a little bit (about 1/8"). I installed it exactly per the instructions, used red Loctite, etc. It's not "between slots." I can't feel any lateral movement at all, but I can easily push it forward and backwards just this slight amount.

Take it off. Make sure the rail and mount surfaces are free of debris. Reinstall with mount flush on reciever (don't span reciever and handguard) push optic mount forward while tightening mount screw.

I tightened the rail mounting screw about another 1/2 - 3/4 turn. Now it's really tight - I was afraid I would strip the threads. But it feels rock-solid now. I'll watch it very carefully to see if that screw turns when I'm firing it. Hopefully the red loctite will still help it stay in place, as well as the tension.

I bought this as part of a scope mounting kit, but it's invaluable on its own too...

Red loctite is a little extreme for optics. Next time use blue.

Rest assured the screw won't be backing out anytime soon, unless you use heat or even a torch.

Only part of my rifle that got hit with red loctite was the low profile gas block.

My TRS-32 is solid. My technique is to tighten slightly, wiggle, tighten slightly and repeat until it finds a good seat. Then crank it down tight.

I never use loctite on my optics mainly because now I have QDs on both of them. Even if I didn't, I wouldn't use loctite.

Oh I'm pretty sure red Loctite will keep the nut from loosening. You'll likely have to apply enough torque to break the cross screw in order to get the optic off the rifle. I don't think you had much of a problem other than the loose rail clamping piece on the mount was likely cockeyed on the rail when first installed.

Actually the red loctite didn't keep me from unscrewing the bolt. It was a little stiff, but it came right out with no problems.

At this point I can't help but wonder if we are talking about Red Loctite. or Blue Loctite in the little red tube.

Sometimes I just hate "Spellcheck"

I bought a TRS-25 and I don't like it. Too small, like looking thru a piece of PVC pipe. If anyone wants mine, PM me. Mine has the UTG mid-level riser. No box. Only PM me if you really want it and make me a reasonable offer...

Are you using it properly, mounted forward on the receiver and shooting with both eyes open, focusing on the target downrange? When used in this manner, I hardly even see the optic, as it is a soft blur and ghosted...

With your description, it sounds like you are closing one eye and looking through the tube like you would with magnified optics.

Wrong on all counts...but I admire your ability to diagnose such things over the internet...

I just plain don't like it. Anyone wants it PM me.

If you just don't like it, that's cool... but your description of looking through PVC pipe is consistent with improper use.

It was just a question, not anything to get your panties in a wad over. Just trying to make a suggestion to see if it could perhaps work for you...

It needs to be torqued to the proper inch pounds. Those should be in the instruction manual that came with the scope.

Wasn't trying to start a urination match, fact is I bought it thinking it would work for me. I prefer regular scopes, getting to the point in life where I need magnification for most distances, and looking to unload it on someone who could use it.

My apologies for getting belligerent...

Apology accepted... sorry that optic didn't work for you.
