Tru Oil

How many coats are you going to use? Are you going to leave it shiney or matte?

I'm trying to see how many it takes to leave a smooth finish like I have on the hand gaurd. I want it to fill in the wood and then I will do what it takes to make a satin finish. The front half didn't take nearly as many as the butt stock. The fore took about two months to get to the dark smooth satin finish. This one has been going for a month now and isn't near as dark. Nothing good is quick or cheap.

I can't believe that only one person on here (gaucho1) has recommended cooking oil for removing tru oil. Many moons ago when I was into refinishing, I always used cooking oil, then a good hand soap (Lava) to clean up my hands.

I usually hire one of Sips or Cajes' ladies (on the QT) to massage all that nasty "Tru Oil". I prefer Mongolian Tung Oil, but then you have to send overseas for removal.;)
