Trucks

I've mostly had Ford's 1979 , 1988 , now a 2017 F150. :)

I did buy a 2000 Chevy 3500 that was also a good truck.

All the above trucks were bought new by me.

The one I liked the best was the 1988 F150 but it had the most trouble.:(

The Chevy was a good truck but must of had a big magnet in the rear end as I got rear ended 3 times.

I've had good luck with Ford trucks and I've owned a 93 F-150 5.0 flare side, a 2004 Sport Trac, and a 2018 F-150 crew cab 5.0. I purchased them all new and had very few problems with them. The 2018 with the 5.0 Coyote engine and 10 speed transmission is a lot of fun with 395 HP, 400 ft-lbs torque, it is quick and gets 22+ mpg highway. Other than my big-block 70 Mach 1, it is by far the quickest vehicle I have owned.

In 22 years in the US I've yet to own a pickup. Body on frame SUVs, yes. Two Chevys, an Izuzu and the current Nissan.

My son tells me that I'm not areal man since I drive an SUV rather than a real truck. Well, this is Texas. I have driven both Ford and Chevy in the past. Right now I'm happy with something a bit smaller that gets better gas mileage for my daily commute (about 19 miles each direction). The little Escape gets me where I need to go reliably and affordably. I can haul pretty much anything I need to in the back, but if it won't fit I can always borrow my son's Ram.

I have considered a Ranger. There are quite a few on the road here, and they look good. The reviews I've read, though, always bemoan a very "jittery" ride quality. I think I can live without that. It sounds like the 72 Chevy I had as my first truck. It was about the same size as a new Ranger, too. I'm sure the new Ranger is easier to start on cold mornings than the old Chevy was, though.

I owned Chevy 2500 HD trucks for 20 years. They're great trucks. I realized I didn't need the towing capability and the weight got them stuck easier, so I started looking at half ton trucks. The 2019 Ram Rebel had what I was looking for. It has a good combination of off road capability and hauling capacity. It can haul and tow more than the Power Wagon. I've had it for a year now and really like it. Ram does a great job with the interior features. Ford and GM don't compare there.

Last truck i bought new, and still have, is 1995 F150, 5 speed with 302, short bed, 2 door extended cab, Eddie Bauer version.

Here's a picture after an oil change and wash in it's native habitat- parked in the garage......idle. Used to be daily driver - now comes out for anything that needs hauling or if I'm in the mood to reminisce and shift the gears.

My wife names her cars - this one's called by all, simply, the truck.

Ive always owned FORD cars and trucks.
Several F100/F150s over the yrs.
300six cyl to 351M motors all real reliable as long as maint is done as it should be with any truck.

Last two were Lightnings 94 that I pwned for 13 yrs sold with 425k on the clock still would shame a new hemi ram from a dig. The 351w is a rock solid motor as is the 302.

The 03 L was a ton of fun and would shame other so called sport trucks and many a so the owner thought fast car.

Sold it shortly after purchase of land as it was not conducive to land use and although the PU part functioned fine I did not want to rag it out.

Picked up a clean 08 F150 4dr 5.4 v8 truck been a good one so for i a little over a yr of ownership.

In time when I get to where I am ready to make a payment on a new one it will be an F150 for sure.

GM trucks are OK if you can get past the hideous looks.

I wouldnt touch a ram with a 10ft pole.

Refuse to own a Nissan or Toyota even though Tacoma is built in my town.

My02 YMMV.

I don't drive any of those, but always remember what my father-in-law, a longtime Texas farmer and rancher used to say about Ford vs. Chevrolet trucks: if you're going to take care of it, a Ford's fine. If you're going to abuse it, get a Chevrolet". I don't think he had any Dodge experience. Perhaps he didn't want any.

I kind of like Ford pickups, I have had a 1954, 1965, 1966, 1972, 1979 and an 1989 F-250 that I still have. It has a 460ci engine, 4:10 rear and sometimes gets 10 mpg. It has the original front gas tank and a 45 gallon after market back tank. It has 118,000 miles and no rust through. I used to use to pull a camper, now I use it only if I need to haul something. It still has the dimmer switch on the floor and wing windows.
