I am planning on changing my XS Big Dot sights (don't find it useful for night/dark time use) with the Truglo TFO and would like to here from users here how good/bright is it for night time use. Which do you prefer, green/green or yellow/green? Tnx

I had the opportunity to do some nite shooting with a friend a few weeks ago. He has TFO's on his Glock 19. I was absolutely impressed with how bright they were not only in the daytime but at night time. I plan to buy some eventually. I will do the yellow rear with green front option. The green is just a little brighter than the yellow so your eyes will be attracted to the front sight. At least that's the idea anyway.

Green/green for me. The TFO front is comparable to any other front Tritium sight I've seen at night, but, if there's any natural light, even at dawn & dusk, that FO POPS! It can not be ignored. many say they are fragile, but I have several TFOs on Sigs, & haven't had any problems.

Seal them in with clear silicone from the hardware store and they can't break it doesn't affect the performance either.

My son put TFO's on his 9C just a few months ago. He loved them. Very bright and easy to pick up. During a range session about ten days ago, the front sight fiber fell out and was propelled about five yards north of the firing line. A few days ago during another range session, one of the rear sight fibers was lost. TruGlo gave him two options. Have the sights removed, send them in to TruGlo for repair/replacement, then have them reinstalled. Not really cost effective. Or, he can ship the pistol slide to TruGlo who will remove, repair/replace, reinstall, return ship. This seems like the lesser of two evils, but either way he's without the use of his EDC and he pays for removal/installation labor and shipping.

TFO

I have them on most of my CCW pistols. Great for day and better for night.
My house pistols have them on all of them. I do have BD on one CCW Shield 9mm.

I much prefer the Trijicon HD night sights over the TFO's. I have both and overall I prefer the HD's. The TFO's are best during lower light but the HD's are great no matter what kind of light. Bright sunlight, low light, or no light.

I have put 200 rounds on mine with no problems but i am curious. about how you would seal them with silicone. would you seal them from the point you look at when you line them up, or from the top where they gather light or both?

I have the green/green on 8 Glocks and my 2 M&P's....love them....esp great night AND day!

I went with the Yellow rear and Green front. I like the contrast. Yes, they are plenty bright in all situations.

I had TFO' sights on two different pistols. A sig 229 and a 239, both in 357sig. The 229 was my duty weapon and the 239 was off-duty. When new they were awesome.
But... In both guns within 500-600 rounds I lost at least one of the fiber optic tubes. I am an agency armorer and pulled the sights myself and sent them off. Two weeks to get them back from Truglo for each set...
After I got the set back and reinstalled on the 229, within 100 rounds a different tube dissapeared...

I pulled both sets off and replaced them with Trijicon HD sights and never looked back.

I have co-workers and friends who had similar experiences with truglo sights as well. For a duty weapon that will get heavy use and frequently banged around I would avoid TFO sights at all cost. I have yet to see any brand of fiber optic sight that stands up to abuse.
For a CCW gun that doesn't see thousands of rounds, and spends most of its life in a holster, give em a try, you may have better luck then me.

For my money, any gun I carry now wears a set of the trijicon HD with the orange front.

I also had Tru Glo TFO's put on my Shield at first, but just didn't care for them and switched. Just wasn't a fan of the exposed tube and the longish front sight. Might not be a valid concern, but it bothered me, so I pulled them and changed to Ameriglo's idot pro's on the Shield, and Trijicon's on the FS. Also a big fan of the Orange front sight, just seems to work better for quick sighting with my almost 50 year old eyes :). For my FS 40, 1911, etc the standard 3dot Trijicon setup works fine.

Ditto - have the green / green TFO on my Shield. That combo of tritium and fiber optic seems to work in all conditions. Well worth the money IMO. Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like the most common problem s the tube falling out which is a hustle and certainly not a good one for a self-defe nse firearm. I guess the choice now will either be Trijicon or Meprolites. Any suggestions?

Go with the Trijicon HD sights. You will not regret it.

Take a look at the Ameriglo Idot Pro, too. They make them with a "HD" orange or green front sight. Half the price of the Trijicon.

Ameriglo Pro i-dot sights for the M&P with the orange front- SW-201 (standard rear notch) or SW-501 (rounded rear notch). I have a set on my Glock 26, and they are my favorite night sights, by far. I'll be installing the SW-501 on my M&P 40c and 45c.
