Hi There,

Welcome to the Forum!

Please post pics if you can. There were several models with
spur type triggers. Most models had their own serial number
range so, a serial number by itself is pretty much useless for
identification.

Cheers!

Welcome to the Forum! There were two models of centerfire spur trigger break open revolvers. The 32 Single Action and the 38 Single Action. Both had serial numbers starting with "1". The 32 ran from 1 to 97,574 and the 38 ran from 1 to 108,255. S&W records indicate when a gun was shipped, not when it was made. If a 32, it shipped around 1881 and if a 38 it shipped around 1888 give or take a couple years. The only way to get an accurate date is to obtain a historical letter on each.

Your gun is a .38 Single Action Second Model Revolver, made from 1877 to 1891 in 108,255 units.

I don't see the telltale signs. The pin and screw holes don't look wallowed out and the side plate looks unmolested. The sharp edges look sharp to me. Obviously, I'm not seeing what you are seeing. This revolver looks nice to me. If it's a refinish, it must be a factory redo.

I think if the finish were original the hammer , trigger and ejector would be color case hardened. That being said the finish work looks very impressive.

Hi There,

Thank you Gary!

I don't know about the cold blue part but I saw blue in shallow
pits and scratches.

Cheers!
