Just acquired a wonderful set of grips which fit an N frame Square butt as shown on a newer N frame revolver; larger than usual S&W medallions appear to be real silver. Wonderful checkering. Anyone ever see any like these before and what were they on? Any idea who may have made them? Do you think they are factory?

Not factory, I have a pair of them, the maker was known for doing mostly Colts. The name I was given was Mike Poulin.

Thing is, the grips seem a bit old, and my set came off of a registered magnum. Poulin apparently was making ivory up into the 2000s at least.

So honestly, I'm not 100% certain of this information, I've not seen proof.

They are not Spegels however.

They are also really great grips, I love my set. They are very desirable.

Could we see a picture of the insides and the grip screw?

Curious if the insides match modifieds grips.
Also wonder if its S&W hardware

That is the third or fourth set of those I have seen thru the yrs. I love 'em! No clue who the artist was.

We know those were made for a pre war N frame because they are slightly too long for the post war N frame grip frame.

The medallions are the pre war S&W factory style from the period of about 1930 to WWII known as the"flat silvers", chrome plating over brass. They are 1/2", not curved, and flush with the surface of the wood. They occasionally show up during and after the war until inventory was deleted. when the new 3/8" curved nickel plated brass medallions replaced them.

Here are the photos from a few other threads:

Modified's stocks from this thread: Mystery Stock Thread

In honor of finally acquiring a set of a particular type of mystery stocks ...

Tom K's stocks from this thread:Who made these grips? - update Post 32

... the grips that I found at the Tulsa show. I got these from Ray Brazille. He in turn got them as part of a batch from someone else, and has no idea of their history. They are for an N frame, and he believes them to be made prewar.

Tom K liked them so much, he had a grip maker make him another set... and then Tom K had the grip maker make some more sets, as posted here: Some stocks by schofieldkid81

I recently received an order of some stocks by schofieldkid81 (Steve Jesse) so I though I'd show them off. They are in the style of some prewar fleur-de-lis stocks that I bought from the late Ray Brazille at a Tulsa gun show a couple of years ago. Here's a thread about the original stocks. Who made these grips? - update Post 32

Here are the ones that Steve made for me that duplicated the originals - originals to the left, duplicates on the right:

I like the S&W medallions but they added somewhat to the cost, about $50. I asked Steve to make me a few more sets but modified to omit the medallions. I also wanted a couple in K frame size, which he had not done before.

From back to front:
Triple Lock .44 Target with the original prewar stocks.
Model 24-3 with the first stocks Steve made for me.
Model 27-2 5" with stocks by Steve, no medallions.
Model 19-4 4" with K-frame size stocks by Steve.
Model 14-2 2" with K frame stocks.

Here are Steve's N frame stocks, with medallion and without. In the new set without the medallions he made the center diamond a little smaller:

And here's a comparison between N frame (left) and K frame (right) stocks:

I have no idea who made the original stocks, but I too like them very much.:D:cool::)

Thanks for sharing,
