I'm trying to identify my 38 special. At first I just wanted to know model so i could buy a speedloader, but then i got curious about the gun. Do any of you know what model this is? The only thing i know for sure is that it's an airweight 38 special on a J frame. The only markings are pictured below.

Welcome, ashvlgrl,
You have a Smith and Wesson Bodyguard made between 1955 and 1957. In 1957 it was assigned the title Model 38. It has an aluminum frame with a steel barrel and cylinder. Keep those nice wood grips with it, they are worth a little money in their own right.
It was designed not to snag on clothing with the "humpback" feature, while retaining the ability to cock the hammer for single action shooting.
Check the hammer channel frequently for lint, loose change and whatnot especially if you carry it in a purse.
Neat
gun. I have a newer, but not better one.

Thank you so so so much! I've literally been losing sleep trying to figure out what this little beauty is. It's a family hand-me-down from my in-laws. Now I can go to sleep happy!
:D
