I cannot recall any of the actors but I am sure it was about the battle of the bulge in the Ardennes. It was a old B&W movie from the early 50's I think. Two scenes I recall, one the GI's had to hide a wounded soldier so they scooped out snow under a wrecked jeep and hid him. When they returned he was frozen. The big scene was when the weather cleared and an airdrop of food and ammo allowed the US to go on the offensive and win the battle. Does anyone remember the name of this movie?

Battleground, and the frozen soldier was Ricardo Montalban (I wonder if the Jeep had Corinthian leather seats). James Whitmore and Van Johnson were the 2 main actors.

Don't forget Herbert Anderson was also in that movie. He was better known as Henry Mitchell--Dennis the Menace's long-suffering father.

Never can remember his name but the guy who played Kipp Kippton directly behind Ricardo Montalban: Thanks to a gent pointing it out for me--the forgotten name is: Douglas Fowley.

Our dad's

When that movie came out our dads were in their late 20s early 30s-WW2 was part of their lives-The movie depicted the airborne troops of the 101st as heroes-hence, all of our dads, regardless of service branch were perceived as bigger than life. And the end when they're singing Jodie's-stuck with me to this day. I retired from the Infantry almost 30 years ago-and I still love to hear troops chanting Jodie's.
My mother told me when I was 5 that if you didn't serve-you wouldn't be able to get a good job-
My son is a paratrooper.
Great movie that kids should watch.

Ringo Kid, thanks for the great stills from the movie! Just Outstanding!

Thank you and, this movie is one of my top all-time most favorite. Im a classic movie buff-and love showing off a bit. Sad thing about that movie-not one of those helmets, was a real Screaming Eagles
helmet-since most were destroyed after the war. :(

My Dad was at the Bulge. 20 years later, when we were stationed in France, I got to tour may of the battlefields with him. Bastogne was one of them.

Here are some photos from my own trip to Bastogne...

Is it bad to be able to ID all of the supporting actors in a show when watching one of the oldies TV stations? Problem is I begin to ignore the story to see who appears next on screen.

P.S. Isn't that Earl Holliman also behind Montalban in that photo? And it's RICH Corinthian leather!

Looking at the pictures I don't know how those guys did it. Whenever I took my helmet off my hair was always twisted and matted down. They take their helmets off and look like they just stepped out of a salon.
