If the price is fair, dont hesitate to make the purchase. The time to buy is when you see it, (even more so in todays' gun market) especially for an uncommon model.
I sure do like the 39xx series of pistols. Most of mine are TDA but have some DOA versions too. All are great and the TSW variants can be just a little nicer, trigger wise, if it has MIM parts. Good luck.

He is asking 500 . Let me ask a silly question the the slide is stainless so if I cleaned it up will a little flitz polish would it affect the writing on the slide I couldn't tell how it's done is it laser etched does anyone know ? Thanks

Metal polish will remove the laser etching.

The frame is aluminum. Polishing the slide will make it not match the receiver.

I own the 3953 and the 3953 TSW (no rail) models. Both these models have round slide plugs. The visual difference between the two is the laser etching on the slide.
However, IIRC, the 3953 TSW railed version has the "wimpy" (TTSH term) safety plug instead of the round plug. Round plug slides are not convertible to DA/SA.
The 3953 is my primary EDC.

Thanks for the info concerning price. Love to see a pic but think you did OK in this current market. Like that model myself and did get to fire one at S&W range back around 2000 after touring the factory. Sure wish they would make em again!
The railed 3953TSW's (made in Springfield, MA) have extremely nice slide-to-frame fits, as they were paired up and fitted together during production at the pinnacle of 3rd Gen craftmanship. I have found these railed 3953TSW's and 3913TSW's to be the most accurate factory production S&W 3rd Gens I have ever shot.
I cannot speak for the later Houlton, ME produced 3953TSW's though. I don't believe they were produced with the same care or knowledge of the earlier models.

I didn't buy it yet I can leave a deposit and pay it off so it won't feel so bad lol . This shop always has these floating around he also has a 3914 a little more used that this one but still decent for 400 I just like the look of the 3953 I'm lying I like them both lol thanks for all the information everyone

Yes, with a bit of searching.
AFAIK, S&W is still producing all of the parts you will need, but it will be hard to find them all at once, and then you will still have to fit a sear release lever. In other words, you may be better off just buying the 3914, which is an excellent TDA pistol.
You would need:
- TDA Trigger
- TDA Hammer
- 9mm-sized Manual Safety Body (and likely the RH lever, plunger, and plunger spring; possibly also the safety body plunger & spring)
- Sear Release Lever (fitting required)
- possibly a standard 3913 mainspring as well (I have heard reports of the later 3953TSW's using a stronger mainspring to make them function correctly).
Scoring a used parts kit for a TDA 9mm (or most 40sw models) is the easiest and cheapest way to get these parts, but you'll still have to do the work. Forum member BMCM would most likely be able to do it for you as well, but I don't know if he has all the parts.
