TSW or Not??

i've got a friend looking to buy a .40 S & W .... he likes the older 4003's and 4006's .... he has found a few new and used. he has also found both of these in TSW versions. he was wondering if the TSW is worth the extra money or should he just stick with the regular 4003/4006

I would direct your friend to the search function here to see scads of information related to your topic. In short, minus the gargantuan branding of "TSW" on the slide, i think the TSW has design enhancements that are worth the extra $ that one may spend acquiring one. That said, all three of my 3rd gen pistols have been non/pre-TSWs and all were or are 1. accurate, 2. reliable, and 3. inexpensive to obtain.

Not trying to hi-jack the thread but, I thought the only difference in the standard i.e. 5903 as opposed to the 5903 TSW was the rail.So if anyone can enlighten me I would appreciate it.

The TSW line has what I believe are called boxed guide rails on the frame and a loaded chamber indicator. I will be getting my very first TSW gun this week, a LNIB 4563TSW. Can't wait to check it out and put a few rounds out of it.

You will be happy with choosing the 4006TSW, it is a well built handgun that can withstand the punishment of the 40 caliber round, and deliver acceptable accuracy with very little snap due to the weight. I enjoy shooting mine with an M&P9 which I am a tad more accurate with. Here is more information in regards to the TSW series.....zorro49

I have four 3rd Gen guns, one in each caliber offered. Only one, my 4566 is a TSW. So far, it has proven the most accurate of the bunch, with the 10mm 1006 a close second. I don't believe the 10XX series was ever offered as a TSW model.

In reading the link provided by Zorro49, I see all TSW pistols have an alloy frame vs the older 4006 which is all stainless. (not sure about the 4003)
Pointing that out may help your friend decide which one he wants to go with.
If given the choice, I always go all stainless. Just my preference.

Dunno about the 59XX and 40XX series, but my 4566TSW is a stainless steel frame.

Four digit S&W models that end in ###3 are alloy frames whereas four digit S&W autos that end in ###6 are steel. There are are exceptions with older frames and even a ###4 that is a blue frame.
