I'm guessing you're talking about the Wanenmacher Gun Show. I'm sure it'll be crazy packed, like usual. Too bad you can't come though. Already got my tickets, but "we'll keep the lights on for you". See you in the Spring!

I just got out of the show and am taking a little break before going on to the Southwest Bunch BBQ dinner. I have a dealer friend and get in early on Friday, so yesterday I found a nifty little 4" American Bulldog in .44 caliber. What made it a buy was that it had 40 rounds of handloaded ammo with it, originals being too costly to shoot at about $5/round. The cases were .44 Mag cut down and the rim thinned for correct headspacing.

All I wound up with S&W-wise today is what appears to be a 2nd Model Hand Ejector in .45 Colt. I am sure it was originally in .455 caliber because the stamping on the barrel has been cleanly altered to read .45LC, and the backside of the cylinder has evidently been shaved as there is no serial number. The number on the underside of the barrel does match the number on the frame. The lanyard ring is gone but the hole was not filled, and the stocks are old plastic fake stag.

Seems like converted .455s usually have a bunch of proof marks on them - this one has had them all removed but very cleanly. There is no S&W logo on either side but if it was polished off it was again done clean. The sideplate edges are still sharp.

If I get a chance later I'll post some pics.

FYI, prices overall seemed quite high. I know that's the norm at the Wanenmacher show but it seemed even moreso this time. For instance it looked like the average asking price for a Model 17 was about $750.

I had a nice day at the Wanenmacher gun show today, walked a lot, met a few nice people, got rid of a Glock 19 and picked up a very nice TPD marked S&W 4046. Brought the gun home and decided to clean it up but didn't find a dirty spot anywhere (haven't taken the grips off yet). Sorry about the crappy cell pic.

Art is good people

For the first time in many years I came back from Tulsa without a new to me firearm. I had two different models of single shot Winchesters that I was looking for, a model 47 and a model 58. I saw several, but I guess I;m getting picky in my old age. I did get a pretty good buy on some 556/.223
ammunition. It was Lake City for .44 cent a round, which is probably plenty, but I was low.

One of the highlights of my trip was meeting Art O'Conner and his wife. They both seem to be salt of the earth good people. I am currently on a walker and Art had offered me the use of his scooter to use at the show. I was really pleased by the offer and felt good about that as he didn't know me at all..

Walked my butt off...but had fun!

Went both days, spent also 10hrs total there, walked my butt off! With so many tables it was hard to find one again later without GPS coordinates. Alot of the nice guns were high, of course, but I found a couple Gen.3's to go with my 845: a 4006 & a 4056TSW, both in great shape.

I left at 5pm on Saturday. was having a bad time walking and decided to get out while I was still able to move a little. the shows rules are,to me,onerous. and as a result, due to the difficulty in traveling in general and the jerks at the show, it was my last one in Tulsa. didn't even get to go unstairs where all the good stuff usually is.

What rules there did you find onerous? I live here in OK so I mainly go to only the shows in Tulsa (big and small) but I don't know of any rules significantly different from other shows. How were people jerks?

Walking the show certainly can be a burden and if you just did the lower level, that's only about a quarter of it. But you owe it to yourself to make to at least the first few rows on the upper level, where Lee and the other S&W guys hang out. And if you change your mind about not coming again and can spare the time, sign up for the Southwest Bunch BBQ dinner/meeting Saturday evening. It's always a good time.

Enjoyable atmosphere

Halfway thru our Saturday trek my adult son turned & says to me, out of the blue, "Everybody here seems happy & they're enjoying themselves." Not sure what provoked that but the general atmosphere has always been enjoyable, or I wouldn't go. There's alway a jerk no matter where you go, but lots of families come & have an enjoyable time. Sorry you had a bad experience.

tom k- when they won't let table holders in the show until 1pm on Friday yet they allow someone to buy a 3 day pass, they get in first. that's ridiculous. I paid more for my table than the 3 day passes cost,i should get in first to set up. my table was downstairs by the concession stand on the other side from david carroll. the doors on the back side were used Saturday morning to push my cart through with items o the cart. then Saturday afternoon when I wanted to leave, they wouldn't allow it. on little 2 for a nickel security guy got in my face when I tried to turn the cart around. said I had to go to the other side of the building to get out and our car was right by the back door. I also need to say I was in a lot of pain and walking on crutches. the rest you should by able to figure out. at least I got out alive, never to return.
