I hope to go on Sat. At this time of year it can be interesting as the Bubbas are getting rid of their practically new deer rifles for some cash to fix up the bass boat. Sometimes bargains can be found. Will let Ya'll know how it goes..

MW - are the gun shows over that way worth going to? Reason I ask is the latest one here in Oxford was an absolute robbery - cost $8 bucks to get in and almost every single gun was price over retail - best dudes were the Mississippi Auto Arms. Gun shows used to be fun when prices were reasonable and you didnt have to take out a mortgage to get in the door....

Is it worth the trip?

I have not been to a gun show in over a year so I really don't know what the "quality" will be like. The last one, I picked up a 57 no dash with the 8+(3/4 1/2?) bbl for about 500. The frame was pristine but the cylinder had some wear. I thought it was a good deal so I didn't dicker. You just never know what will show up at these things. I also have a favorite dealer who is a great guy and if he has something close to what I am looking for, I will cut a deal with him. The last was a Mod 70 243 (from the late 70's when they tried to look like 700 BDLs) that I restocked with a laminate stock and it turned out to be very accurate. So I guess it will be some socializing and some shopping. Weather forecast is rain so it's something to do indoors.

I've been to this show twice. The last time I went I picked up a nickel S&W mod 57 (p&r) for $550.00. It's not a big show but it's OK. There was a grip guy there that had some nice stuff. I got a couple of things from him also. Not going this time. I'm hoping for good weather so I can work outside some.

I'm not sure, but this may be one of the shows where they hook up with the flea market. Never a good show in the past. Knives are bad enough without having to deal with all the other stuff. And the Tupelo shows are not very good except for the hunters. Not many interesting collectibles there. I usually average 1 gun a year at the Tupelo shows.

UPDATE: The show is scheduled for Building No. 5, so will probably be okay. Parking may still get a little hairy, as the Flea Market is in Building 4 and 3, I believe.

I went..

And it seemed like everything was outside my price range or not what I wanted..

There were lots of knives and cigarette lighters. The battle axes seemed reasonably priced but what do I know? . I did pick up a Handi-rifle in 45-70 AN no box, LS, with a Nikon Buckmaster and w/sling. Got it for Muzzleloader season here. Also some 45-70 brass and a box to put them in. Fairly good crowd and my dealer friend said Fri 5-9 was very busy. He had done better than he did on some whole days. Admission was still 6.00.
Beautiful day for a drive.
