My wife found a recipe for this, and at first I objected (as much as a husband who doesn't cook can object anyway).

Well, it's in the oven now and smells fantastic! I may be eating a little crow with my turkey this year.

Any other non-traditional turkeys roasting out there today?

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! Enjoy.

Sounds great and though I believe that your having this--without pictures--a few here might not believe it. :-)) Happy Thanksgiving sir....

Hey, I bet that crow would be good wrapped in bacon, too!

We wrap ruffed grouse in bacon and baste with apple cider, or hard
cider. My wife is making one that way for dinner tonight.
She cooked a turkey breast the same way two weeks ago.
We started making birds that way about four years ago.
Figure to continue.

I don't know why I hadn't thought of the turkey & bacon myself earlier, since Thanksgiving is afterall a day of turkey & pigskin :D

So.

WHERE ARE THE PICS!?!?
:D

Damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead...Praise the Lord and pass the bacon!!!!!

Question...Was the bacon crisp like the turkey skin, or wimpy. Thick sliced or thin. One pound or two? An inquiring mind wants to know!!!!!!

My son asked me whether he should put bacon across the turkey breast to cook on the Big Green Egg. I said, probably not and it probably would not make any difference.

Since he didn't get the YES answer he was looking for... he did it anyway.

EAT MY WORDS. It kept the breast very very moist and flavorful. This was the best turkey (both while and dark meat) ever. It was a20 lb. brined turkey from Trader Joes.

attempt at pic

Okay, I know...w/o a pic it didn't happen...here goes nothin'...

Although it looks a little toasted on top, understand the glaze was an unknown (to me) BBQ sauce w/ some chipotle, so it came out dark reddish...it was very tasty & remained moist, but I admit I'm still a traditional turkey kinda guy...

Well, after THREE failed attempts to upload my .jpg file, I've got to give up ...and by 2 this afternoon all evidence of our 2014 turkey will be gone

Sorry guys, guess it never happened...

It was crisp, but the turkey meat was moist as it should be...I don't know how much exactly, but the whole exposed exterior of the 15 lb turkey was covered in bacon (including legs)...w/ the help of some toothpicks of course..

Going to the sisters tomorrow for her absolutely awesome turkey and I know I will eat way to much.

She rubs the bird with liberal amounts of Lowery's season salt then covers the top with a full pound of bacon and bakes. It has a wonderful flavor and isn't dry like most. After, the bacon and leftover turkey makes the best sandwiches.

Here's another one I saw on tv for us bacon lovers: You take the leftover dressing, and use an ice cream scoop to put the pieces on a cookie sheet. Then you wrap each scoop in bacon and bake it in the oven until the bacon is done.

Man that does sound good. Unfortunately I've already had my first heart attack due to a plugged artery so I gotta pass.
