TWO E SERIES QUESTIONS

Hello:

I am waiting eagerly until the E Series 1911's are on the Maryland State Police roster and therefore legal to purchase. Frankly, I am also wrestling with which major-player 1911 to purchase, either the basic SS S&W E Series, or the Ruger SR1911. I have two questions:

1. The only real "downer" I have read so far from multiple sources about the E Series is the extractor pin working down the hole (presumably from recoil) and eventually jamming the slide. Did the previous non-E Series S&W 1911s, the same ones kept in the line for California, use this same extractor pin design? What about the other S&W pistols? Is there a history of a problem here, or does it seem like an early-production or random fluke situation?

2. Does anybody know if S&W has submitted the E Series to the MD roster board?

I would think an extractor pin would be an easy fix, maybe even mushrooming the existing pin . of course S&W could have the problem well in hand.
I like commanders. I owned one of the older Sc models, and it was a great shooter. I would bet the E series are even better.
the Ruger is a govt. size, so you cant really compare the two.
Maybe Ruger should make a commander, then we could!!
I know which way I would go then!
The new Ruger SR1911 is a clean, well made 1911.
The E series is a well made gun, that got pimped out by designers with very poor taste....sorry, just my opinion.

this is the same extractor that has been in their third gen guns for quite a while with no issues.

I would take out my extractor every now and then with my CQB (FASTBOLT FROWNS on that) and drive the pin back in with no issues.

the pin is aparently the issue. there is a fix but probably with everyone cutting costs, these pins might have fallen to cutbacks and not up to the job and likely intermittent.

I would not hesitate to buy one, if I had and extra grand laying around for the CCO model.

It's going to be pretty hard to pass up a Ruger 1911 in Stainless at the price they are asking, although I think the Smith 1911 E series will be one of the best on the market.

Another one that should be really nice, but is going to be a little pricier than the S&W I think-the new Ithaca 1911.

I was able to hold one, but haven't been able to shoot one yet.

They're made in Upper Sandusky, OH. Kind of about 2/3rds of the way from Cleveland to Toledo, and a little south.

I'm awaiting the E Series as well. It's due to the Cabela's by me soon (they usually have stuff in first around me). I have been calling around other stores to see if they have any in. I'm interested in the standard full size without the rail. I looked on their website, and they have the stainless without the rail. Can I assume they will have the black melonite as well?

I have a Commander size on order for a month now with 2 tone and bob-tail.
