The Shield seems to have a slightly longer grip than the Compact. I can get two whole fingers on my Shield when using the shorter magazine. With the Compact flat base plate magazine, part of my ring finger hangs out. When I switch to the Compact's extended base plate, part of my pinky hangs out.

Is there a someone who sells a Compact magazine base plate that is in between the flat and the extended versions? I could use an FS 17-rd magazine with an X-Grip adapter but that is too long for my needs. I would sure love it if someone came up with a 14 round 9mm magazine for the 9c.

That sucks, sounds like you have some serious sausage fingers. I have pretty thick fingers myself but I'm able to get 2 fingers on the compact. I prefer no pinky extension and I prefer the flush fit mag with my shield.

My preferences exactly.

I feel for you, you have some serious paws. The only thing I can think of is, I hate to say it, bust out the dremel on the pinky extension to the point where it will fit your two fingers perfect allowing your pinky to hang off. You'll probably end up taking a lot off, you'll probably have to do this to all your mags, but it sounds like it's the only solution for you.

Thank you DocSunShine. I've been tempted to do exactly as you suggest. I was hoping to find something that would occupy both the front and the rear of the grip, much like the Shield's longer magazine.

I have both the Shield and 9c, I hate having fingers dangle so I prefer the 8 round extension on the Shield and the pinky extension on the 9c. I do wish they made a better extension for the 9c that extended more in the palm, the Shield actually fits my hand length wise better than my 9c. Regardless, ask me which I prefer shooting and that would be the 9c.

I gave up on the 9MM M&P compacts - Shield and 9c which are mostly unavailable around here - both instances due to the short grip and difficult trigger pulls - striker - which seriously inhibited my ability to achieve any semblance of accuracy. Wound up buying a STI 1911 Spartan compact (officer model) with a grip which I can manage with my big hands and a very nice trigger. Regards, Ed

I would say I'm blessed with average size hands. I thought I'd have problems going back & forth from a FS 40 to a 40C. No problem at all even using the flat base plate. The flat base plate conceals a bit better but that's really not an issue for me so my preference is the pinky extension. I don't have my very own 40C yet as I'm still waiting for delivery but I'll also be able to use the full size mags & then there won't be much of a difference in grip.

I can get a two finger grip on the Shield and 9c. My favorite base plates for the 9c are the two I made to mimic GAP plates made from FS9 baseplates. A flat baseplate for concealment with a lock-in tab is #1 in my book. ;)
