Ok so I'm getting the house ready for the 4th ribfest this afternoon when I notice 2 groundhogs in my yard looking into my back patio window. Now there is a soybean field right behind the house and young beans are like gummy bears to whistle pigs. I run to the safe and grab my 1955 target that I have been carrying on the farm lately but by this time they have moved off quite a bit. I see them at the edge of my yard along the woods that borders my back yard. I have an upstairs balcony so I ran up to the second floor and resting on the door frame draw down on the old sow. WW silvertips in the gun and 1 shot and she drops like a sack of cement. Junior runs into the woods and then comes back out to the edge and stands up! Second shot and he joins momma in the big burrow in the sky. Range as stepped off later is 35 yds for the 1st and 40 for the young one. Sitting here now waiting for the kids to show and watching the ribs smoke. Also enjoying a nice glass of Bulliet bourbon. It don't get much better than this. Happy 4th to you all.

Farmboy,

I'm torn.

My conservative side says, NICE SHOOTING.

My Democrat side says, YOUR'E A BLOODTHIRSTY KILLER!

However my Redneck side says, BARBEQUE!

HAPPY 4TH!

Those 55' Targets are somethin' ain't they! Good shooting!
Except for me being born on February second, that is?

An exorcism can rid you of the Democrat that is lurking within you. Or you can say seven Declarations of Independence and five second amendments and be forgiven (and maybe cured!!!)

Good shootin' farmboy! How'd the ribs turn out?
We don't have Bulleit Bourbon around here, I wash my hard days down with Wild Turkey Rare Breed. Good stuff.
Happy 4th, God Bless America!

Those groundhogs have actually voted in Chicago, voted many times as a matter of fact.
They may have voted in Philly as well.
They are also counted as homeless citizens without health insurance.

You should be careful killing off the groundhogs, some of them might have 'friends' that will defend them.

Groundhogs

Ribs were great. Had them in the smoker for 4 1/2 hrs. Told the kids I was smoking the groundhogs too. They didn't believe me. Bulliet is not common here but most good stores have it. It falls between Makers Mark and Woodford Reserve in price. I don't really like it any better but it a good change of pace.

I like Bulliet better than Makers Mark (which I don't get the exitement over, I don't care for it), but Woodford, that's a good one!

Woodchucks are a great ammo testing tool. Anytime I feel the need to test a new defensive ammo I make a point of shooting a chuck to see how it works.

Woodford

Yep, Woodfords my favorite too. Got to go easy on it because of cost though. Just laid in a new bottle. Interesting concept on testing ammo on hogs..The silvertips did show a little expansion. I had a real lesson several years ago when I was plagued by possums in the barn. Shot 13 of them over the winter. I found that any jacketed hollow point did not fare well. Worse of all was the 125 +P .38 special. Best was lead semi wadcutters in any caliber. I was impressed with the silvertips on the hogs though.
