One of my local shops got three N frames in on consignment, an 8 3/8" 629 no dash in the case, an "S" prefix 6" Model 57 with Pachmayr grips (no case), and a 4" Mod 57 with no case. I bought the 629 a couple of days ago for $930 (plus tax and fees), and although the case is a bit whooped, the gun is mint and super tight. I almost bought the 6" 57 ($800) with it, but changed my mind at the last minute. Of course I changed my mind after I got home (the shop was already closed) and when I went back the next morning, I was told they literally just sold it before I came in. I handled the 4" 57 but decided to pass. Of course again, I regretted it so I called them this morning to put it on hold and ran over and bought it. I didn't get a pic of the 629 but I took a really bad one of the 57. The gun is in much better shape than my crappy photo shows. The action is smooth, lock up and timing are spot on and there doesn't appear to be any wear on the finish. The serial number, N 145XXX puts it about 1973 ish (I think). Once she's clean, I'm sure she'll be purty. Paid $800 plus tax and fees. I'll post better picks in 10 days when I can pick them both up.
I think both of these were great prices for California. Now I just need to hunt down a nice 4" presentation case...
