Two old Colts in classic holsters

Here’s a ‘52 Cobra .38 Special in “the only surviving Berns-Martin IWB holster”, as it is described in the revised edition of the classic book “Holstery” by forum members Nichols and Witty. And a 1930 Police Positive .38 S&W in a Folsom Audley holster. Old Colt New Police ammo will get finished off next visit to the range. I have another full box to keep. Excellent grips on the PP bought in the classifieds here recently. Both of those holsters found some years apart in the same local gun store junk box.

Wyatt Ive got a 52 cobra 2560LW sn.No holsters or grips as nice as yours but Ive got herrett shooting aces on it and it rides in everything from a pocket holster all the way down to an ankle with Iwb and belt holsters in between.Its a great little snub and yours looks stellar with its classic attire.My police positive is a special from 1976 and wears Herretts shooting stars and is also confined to generic leather like the cobra.Thanks for showing us how neat things used to be with 2 colts dressed to the nines.

Thanks. I checked my serial # and it is 178XX LW which looks like late 1952, according to Proofhouse and the RL Wilson Colt book. I think yours might be even earlier, 1951. Mine has little finish left. I think it was carried forever but not shot much. I have the original “Coltwood” grips stashed away. Coltwood being just a fancy name for plastic.

Here's a WWII Colt Detective Special that went to the Counter Intelligence Corps at Fort Myers, VA during the war with its holster...

I carried an issued Colt twice in my career. First was in ‘68 w/a Colt OP and it was used when I was confronted by a suspect w/a sawed off shotgun. Next was 1974 w/a Colt Detective Special used in a gunfight w/three armed robbery suspects. I still have my Colt Cobra, purchased new in ‘68 for off-duty carry but not carried any more.
