Does the use of a Tyler T-Grip require modification of the stocks?

I ask this because I saw a set of stocks with damage that was explained as allowances for a T-Grip.

Thanks.

I've seen grips notched out to accommodate the tabs so that the grips are absolutely flush with the frame. It's not at all necessary in my opinion and destroys the grips for use without a T Grip.

Generally speaking, those notched out grips used the earlier grip adapter like Mershon and pachmayr because their tabs were waffled and needed clearances in the wood panels

Any change to the inside of the stocks will be difficult to see. Even if there were marks from the Tyler T grips it would only be evident when the stocks are removed. You really have to weigh the benefit of the Tyler grip against any minor marring to the interior of the stocks that never shows when the stocks are fitted to the revolver. If you plan on actually using the revolver I'd install the Tyler grips and not be concerned. Count your blessings you have Tyler T grips, I'm sure many S&W members would be happy to take them off your hands.

I've been using them, and the ones made by a member here, since 1968 & never a problem w/grips or grip frames. They're excellent for a proper grip for those of us w/XLG hands.

I have used them for years on a variety of revolvers and I have average sized hands. I've never seen a T-grip damage any of my stocks.

The M586 actually isn't using a Tyler T but the Pachmayr does the same job. The M27 now sports elk stocks without the T but the point is that it never harmed those original stocks when the T was on there.

No. Not on standard S&W Magna stocks. That's not to say that a T-Grip might not scratch the stocks. It does touch them.

I used a Tyler T most of the 40+ years I carried a M60. While it did ever so slightly gently mark the front of the grip panels, it is a non issue compared to the minor nicks, scratches and dings it got from everyday carry. Basically, the point here is if you are using a Tyler T on an EDC gun, don't even worry about it! If the Tyler T is going on a Range only gun, so little marking will be done (as long as you are using he proper model T) it is really a non issue IMHO. I've got many on my Range guns and there's really nothing to fret about.
