Yesterday I received my correct, "3R" Tyler T-Grip and installed it this morning at the range, after switching to my set of Magna grips. The result is below (Model 686+; Target at 25 Feet). The Magnas take me back to when I was a kid and had a Model 19 2 1/2".

I'm done chasing T-Grips. It's too much work. I ordered two sizes of BK grips and they were in my hands within 5 days. I'm going to try them next week and compare them.

Thanks to all for listening and grumbling about my woes on this subject. Apparently I'm not alone and I wish you all much more success in rapidly obtaining yours.

Best to all -

Rich

I like the BK better too. But I ordered 5 Tylers for N and J frames mainly to see how long it would take to receive them. About 10 months.

I think the simple solution to all the Tyler angst would be for them to simply put on their web-site “your order will take a year to be filled.”

I think that would end the teeth gnashing, weeping and wailing.

I agree. If they'd make mention that theyre a 1-man, part-time show, etc. or whatever the case may be, things might at least seem a little better. Improving their business practices such as not charging your card or accepting a payment until ready to ship may also help. I like their T grips but dont plan on buying any from them until they get their act together.

I have three sets of BK grip One for my k frame sw 15 2 inch,sw mod 10 1969 heavy barrel NYPD. One in ivory color sw 36 I had Tyler t over the years. But you’re right the wait is to long. Bk grip sent it in days and it has 2 set of Prongs instead of one much better secure I feel and I’ve shot the heck out of my guns with no problems. Good luck

There is no "end of story" when it comes to the subject matter. I have one of these grip adapters that I bought in the '70s or '80s from one of the large mail order places that sold gun stuff, reloading equipment, etc. They were only a few dollars as I recall. I don't know whether you could order these adapters directly from the Tyler company at that time or not, but selling his products through dealers kept the owner from the time consuming task of dealing with and shipping to individual customers.

...I have to disagree...he should simply put them on GunBroker or ebay as he completes them.... No one has money tied up, no whining, no waiting... He would also make more money...

I agree with you 100% but the problem is the company is not set up to accept any form of electronic payment—only checks and money orders sent via regular mail. I don’t believe that would work with GunBroker or EBay.

If you aren’t set up to take credit cards and online ordering in 2021, I don’t think it is ever going to happen. Copied directly from the site:

I don't use them. Derive no benefit from them whatsoever. When they show up on a gun I buy I just put them in the storage box.

...and if people would stop ordering from him and letting him have their money for as long as a year without shipping, he might be inclined to do that... The way things are now, he has lots of cash in hand without incurring any costs. ...and he obviously doesn't care if people whine...

BK is the way to go...top quality and prompt shipping. I'm amazed people even consider ordering from Tyler...

I agree, I couldn't find a real use for them either but they have eye appeal to the buyers.

There is a market for them because wooden or rubber grips just can't be made in a factory to a perfect fit for your hand. These Tyler and BK grips obviously satisfy a need that some of us have; to have a sold, perfect grip that requires no re-positioning of your hand on a grip.

Take a look at my picture above and tell me the last time you saw a good-looking set of wood grips that filed out that profile. You haven't. I'm not taking anything away from Culina's extra-fine work and others, but these just work well in action. Try holding either a J-frame or K/L frame Magna grip and tell me you are comfortable. I can't see it. Besides the grip being faulty, balance is off.

YMMV.

Tyler T's may be a headache to order but with their brushed and polished metal they have the upper hand in the looks dept. I bought as many of them as I could get my hands on years ago when there was rumor the company was going to shut down due to a tornado hitting their facility. It seems like they've never really recovered completely. I have never tried BK's but after looking on their site I might order a black one. Not too keen on the ivory look. Hope the plastic feel doesn't have that cheap feel in the hand.

Granted, there will always be exceptions. As in your post and mine, none of us can make blanket statements that apply 100% of the time.

...the CC problem would dissolve because he would be filling the order the day of payment.

Way back when Melvin Tyler's niece and her husband had the company I was one of their distributors. The first order I made was several thousand dollars and was done on a CC. The next order had to be done cash up front... I later found out the CC companies had cut them off because of all the late shipment/charging before shipping complaints...

If the new owner only sold what he had made up he could again take CC...

I don’t understand why someone doesn’t buy them (him?) out and turn it into a real business.

Sounds like a part time garage operation to me.

Agree nickel dime operation, doubt anyone would invest some cash to make it profitable since the present owners seem to be knuckleheads. If I was them I'd sell the company/rights to someone that knows what they are doing in the year 2021.

Perhaps BK could buy the outfit and officially cease Tyler operation. Quietly manufacture just enough to keep the market hot, sell them on GB. How much would folks pay for Tylers if a) they were no longer commercially available and b) could be snagged already made at the end of an auction & immediately sent?

I bet you folks would easily be paying $100.00 a pop for them.

Then you’d pay an arm & leg for one.
