No offense taken, Caryg. Then again, I have no apologies either for why I prefer them on a carry revolver designed for defensive use where fast and furious double action use might sometimes become a sad reality.
I've shot hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of double action revolver matches through the years (and won right at a hundred myself) and there are only two ways to shoot a Smith well so the gun won't torque and shift out of your perfect grip.
One, for ME, is Hogue "rubbers" . . . and the other are stock magna type S&W stocks with Tylers. Folks with catcher mitt-sized hands might also do well with larger "rubbers" like Pachmyers, etc.
HOWEVER . . . for concealed carry purposes, all "rubbers" snag and cause clothing to "print" the gun, and also sometimes impede the smoothest draw. Not good!
For the combination of fast, accurate, controllable double action shooting + ultimate "concealability" . . . original Smith magnas plus a Tyler absolutely RULE!
Casual single action "plinkers" probably wouldn't understand . . . but LEOs and competitors who shoot double action surely appreciate 'em!!!
Look COOL too . . . in a nice, retro way!
On my "always" on me CCW revolver:
And on my favorite handgun, a custom chopped barrel 25-2 in .45ACP. I've won a lot of matches with this super-fast reloading, moon-clipped bad boy . . . and an ultimate "fighting" revolver indeed . . . all the way out to the very sharp-edged front sight that could "slice and dice" should a BG try to grab the barrel in an up-close fight.
This is one BAD gun, and I once won a winner-take-the-pot special steel challenge match against about 35 competitors . . . all whom were using high cap automatics! There were EIGHTEEN steel plates and poppers to drop, with one mandatory reload. Guns started EMPTY. I could have used my own tricked out Colt Combat Elite racegun but . . . I decided to have some fun with a gun I shoot sooo well.
Yep, to beat 'em all with the fastest time I had to load three times IF I didn't miss (vs. their high cap mags only needing one reload . . . and I'd also have to reload twice AND shoot faster too. And yep . . . I smoked all those turkeys and took their money home. Even more fun . . . was all the good-natured "ribbing rights" I won in that match. LOL
Us double action guys understand and appreciate the Tylers.
Again, no offense taken . . . but I have some very strong and practical reasons for appreciating the Tyler T-grips.
