Canadians looking to move guns now on their prohibited list? Guarantee if that is the case it will never be reported. Doesn't suit the commentary.

I read the story and am unclear...
Were they headed to the US or Canada?

That's a great question! The article seemed to say that suspicious people went north into Canada when the officers arrived, but the bags were found on the U.S. side. But it dosen't really make clear if the intent was to take the guns and stuff North or South.

I Don't think intent has been ascertained yet as No suspects have been detained or interrogated yet as per the article. But I'm sure many current and retired LEO members can verify that the media on many occasion does not report the names, or circumstances correctly in reporting.
It is my opinion that either side US or Canadian will claim a victory in the war on guns depending on who is reporting the "news".

These smugglers need to find a new line of work. Probably one where you regularly say "would you like fries with that?"

The Canada–United States border is the longest international border in the world. The boundary (including boundaries in the Great Lakes, Atlantic, and Pacific coasts) is (5,525 mi) long. This includes some of the most rural, out of the way, territory in the world. How one can get caught smuggling along a 5500 mile border, is beyond me.

That "article" was a release from the CBP (US Customs and Border Protection Service), not the news media. The 2023 budget was $82 billion and from what I've read the proposed 2024 budget is an additional $25 billion.

67 guns, some magazines and a muffler???
Meh...

I feel safer already!:)
LOL. Well, I suppose I should feel safer, since nearly all of the shootings by "certain Canadians" are done with guns smuggled across our enormously long border. Meanwhile, the rest of us "other" Canadians can't even transfer/sell our registered handguns to each other now for some reason buried deep in the clogged recesses of the collective mental latrine of certain persons in Ottawa

Seems pretty clear to me that the attempted smuggling was north into Canada. (If the other way, would be coals to Newcastle.)

Bet those were some heavy backpacks...
