I thought that U.S.M.C. Officer Swords were patterned after the Tripoli surrender sword with negative hilt. The ones I have seen lately have a full hilt. Have the pattern changed ?

Jimmy, the officers sword is indeed patterned after the mameluke sword. The ones with the basket hilts are NCO's swords.
