Ugliest Ford I've seen in years

I saw a Ford product the other day. Looked like a Ford version of AMC Pacer. An all-electric Mustang Mach E. Not quite the looks of a GT at all. I think the base price is $41,000 +/-. Butt ugly, but whatever. I don't see how they can call it a Mustang variant at all. I remember the Mustang II, when they put Mustang logo trim on a Pinto body. I think it had a 302 in it, but many were disappointed that they passed it off as a Mustang. I'm fine with them trying their hands at all electric vehicles, "because it's the right thing to do." They could've passed it off as a E Falcon, as Maverick has been already used on a mini pickup truck. These advertising/R&D execs must be pulling their hair out; and smoking some Peyote in their little pipes. Very disappointed when I looked online to see what I had seen was really a Ford all electric, that's all. At least their all electric trucks look like a truck, although useless for any travel up to Lake Erie & back on a charge. (According to my friend's BIL who bought one.)

The wife and I went for a bicycle ride Saturday, and went past of light blue pile of Detroit Defecation called an electric Mustang. At 100 feet plus it is just another bad looking car. AT 6 feet it turns my stomach. In May of 1974, I remember riding in by buddies mid 60's Mustang convertible with a 289 V-8 with headers and side pipes. My last day in High School, the wind in my hair and about 115 MPH, what a memory! You won't get that from an E-Stang.

Electric, oversized hatchback. Yes, I will use the "H" word in public. It has to look the way it does to fit the batteries underneath and have an aerodynamic shape to increase the range.

On that latter point I'll take the flames for my next comment. The manufacturers at the moment seem to be in a race to make the most square fronted trucks they can. That has to make for lousy aero and unnecessary fuel consumption.

Ford thought if they called it a Mustang people would buy it. Wrong. A local dealer brought one to the race track where I “work” during an event we call Mustangs on the Mountain. The salesman tried to tell me they were a performance vehicle. I had my 20 year old stock SVT Focus that day and challenged him to a one lap race and I gave him a 10 second head start.Its 2,3 miles for one lap but 14 turns and 200 feet of elevation change. More like a hill climb that a road race circuit. Weight is your worst enemy for such a course. Those things are fat..like 4600 Lbs fat. Weighs almost twice my svelt Focus. I crossed the finish line first and he wasn’t even in sight.He didn’t have much to say after that. The Mach E is down to $39k this year as they have a slight backlog of 2023s they haven’t sold: 88% of them! Electric will be viable the day Capt.Kirk beams down with the dilithium crystals.

We are not the targeted demographic. While we have no desire for or plans for one we would not be embarrassed to be seen in one.

A young co-worker of mine -- mid-thirties, married, two kids, not a car guy -- has a Mustang Mach-E and loves it. I wouldn't drive one if you gave it to me. Different strokes, as they say...
 
Here's a Mustang, a 2005 GT. 2005 was the model where Ford made the Mustang look like a Mustang again. I picked it up in March 2005, the 10th 2005 GT sold by the dealer. Picked up the owner of the company I worked for and headed to our West Memphis store. Going across the old bridge in Memphis I hit Arkansas doing about 115 mph. My boss was whiter than a sheet.
Still have it, I bet mine sounds better.

Is it fast? I know there are some electric cars that are - I think I just saw a BMW ad about one.

All electric vehicles are quick off the line because the motors give maximum torque at zero RPM. A Tesla Model S would walk away from my supercharged Jag XKR from 10 to 60 MPH despite weighing nearly 1000 lbs more.

A few years ago, I went to a Wings and Wheels event at a local small airport. Planes, cars and motorbikes. There were some good events, like the car crush, where they ran a tank and a D-9 Cat over cars, and some flyovers by Iron Curtain era Yaks. Runway drags were run what ya brung, Corvettes, vipers, Lamborghinis, hemi Dodges of various flavors, bikes, whatever. The Teslas were a new thing then. Nothing could touch them.

I gather from VinWiki that a lot of current supercars come in hybrid configurations, 220mph cars with six and seven figure price tags. Of course tapping all the available power is going to run the battery down sooner.

Do you guys have no appreciation for great industrial design? The Mach E was clearly inspired by one of the most beautiful American vehicles ever put on the road:

The Pontiac Aztek... Rated one of the 50 worst cars by Time magazine. Seeing one always reminded me of the TV show Lost in Space!
 
Ford is ripping off their own name just like Winchester calling the post 64 Model 70s, Model 70s; Which they most certainly were not. Remington did the same thing with the 700. Look what happened to Rem and Win.

Calling a 4 door electric station wagon a Mustang is just about the dumbest thing ever.

Electric vehicles are a solution looking for a problem.

I almost bought a near-new condition very low mileage used Aztek back around 2006. Complete with the most beautiful mustard yellow paint you could imagine, somewhere between a school bus and a taxicab. The dealer was asking far below Blue Book because it had been on his lot for a long time and no one even wanted to look at it. Even though the asking price was better than good and I needed a car at the time, I just couldn't see myself driving it. The proportions were way off and it had sort of a baggy and bottom-heavy appearance. Normally appearance is not something very important to my purchase requirements, but in this case it was.

I did see a piece today in which Ford said it was bringing a fully autonomous vehicle to market within two years. No other details provided.

My daughter and my sister both had Azteks and they both loved them. They had them several years with no problems at all. Only reason they got rid of them was high miles and they wanted to make sure they wouldn't start having problems.

I don't think anyone faulted the build quality of the Aztek, and it was priced fairly high at the time. The main negative issue for me was its poor exterior styling. And the ugly color. It sort of reminded me of a toad.

It was supposedly designed after an athletic shoe. Many people would rather have had the shoe.
