But its a dream to carry. I did change out the grips for these Hogue Bantam grips. They just feel better to me.

Edit: Its a 296, .44 Special

I always wanted one based on what I read on the forum. This was actually the first one I have ever held. Gun only, did not get the fancy box, but that's OK with me.

I took advantage of a rainy afternoon to set up the light box. I learned it works better in the sun room, but the boss was using it for taxes and I'm smart enough not to bother her.

Based on the cylinder flutes, I'm assuming that's a 296, not a 242. While ugly, I have to admit I like mine. Loaded with the Blazer 200 grain Gold Dot, I find it less unpleasant to shoot than a J frame with most .38 loads. It's the gun I carry in a fanny pack to walk the dog, go to the gym, etc. - meaning any time I am not wearing real trousers with a belt.

Yes, indeed an ugly gun. Their "beauty" shows up though in ease of carry and the long DA pull is much easier to shoot well than I expected. Works great with snake shot too in snake weather; and its almost always snake weather in Texas. Good buy, enjoy.

Sorry, it is a 296. I have not fired it yet, but will have to qualify day/night before I carry it as an off duty/LEOSA gun. I agree that the 200 gr. Gold Dots are great. That's what I carry in my 696 and 629/29's unless I'm hunting.

Glad to hear that it will not be unpleasant to shoot. When working full time I carried a 342ti with issued 158 grain +P ammo and it was brutal to shoot. A one hundred round qualification course (day/night) was about all I could stand.

Your experience may not be the same as mine - I have seen reports here from people who think exactly the opposite of what I do. I suspect it has something to do with the nature of the recoil impulse vs. hand fat and other stuff, but that's just a SWAG. I would not be surprised if we had the same view given your description of the "joys" of shooting the +P in the 342ti.

Anybody have a picture of a Ruger P90?
Here ya go, big, brutish, but not ugly IMO.

Well, if that "ugly" l'il gun works well for the boss on her taxes -- just imagine what a beautiful 44 Mag would do!!!

There was a 296 at a local show several years ago. I am a fan of .44 special but the guy wanted almost $600 for it.
