I don't know why, but the Helfricht reminds me of a Noisy Cricket from the MIB movies.

Oh my! There is another example of these things in the world. I almost posted mine here yesterday as an example of firearms' ugliness.

We're going to have to have a sub-topic within this thread about who has the ugliest Helfricht.

Apparently the pistols are pretty rare, made in small quantities between 1920 and 1929. I can see why when considering its lines. It is also the only handgun I have with a stub barrel so short and with such a low bore axis that the tip of my left index finger almost gets in front of the muzzle when I shoot it in a two-handed hold if I don't mind how I grip the thing.

I assume that the serial number is beneath the right grip. Is that what you found, WhisperFan?

I wish I knew - that photo was a from a finished auction I saw once. I wanted to save the photo to remind me of what it was. As ugly as it is, it really appeals to me and I have been looking for one for a couple years now.

Yours isn't for sale - is it ?

Is this one ugly enough to enter? 12 gauge six shooter. Under lever rotates and cocks it.

I don't think the external sear was a problem from the Imperial Japanese viewpoint. They most likely carried them without a cartridge in the chamber. No modern CCW thinking there.

If I remember my military history correctly, Japanese officers were more savy with swords than handguns. I believe the standard practice for carry and use of such was "condition 3"; when combat was immenient the Japanese officer would draw and rack his pistol, but would fire only if necessary. When combat was over, they unloaded the chambers.

Perhaps I'm mistaken on this and maybe someone on the forum knows more. But I think Japanese officers perferred to lead charges with drawn swords if at all possible.
