You did good. A factory refinish means it was done right!
I think you did awesome. Those stag grips look great. Well worth 700. A new one would cost 1000 here tax n all. You got an old one with new finish.
Not to worry. Put the combats back on and I'll give you your money back.
It must be a pretty good refinish job since you didn't notice until you saw the factory refinish stamp on the frame.
Might also explain why the shop had it priced so reasonable.
You might ask the in-house gunsmith that examined it if he knew it was refinished.
A handsome revolver at any rate, and if it's a shooter, money well spent.

OK, I see your edit. A factory refinish. It's still a beautiful & rare gun. I'd still have been all over it. Where are you going to find another 3.5" 27? I've never seen one in person.

Thank you all for talking me off the ledge LOL. I've got a range session scheduled on Thursday so if it shoots as good as it looks I'll be holding on to it.
mod29, I plan on asking the 'smith tomorrow when I'm at the range haha. It definitely does explain the price, I've known him a very long time and frankly I'm surprised he didn't mention it, I'm sure he knows what the reblue mark looks like. Oh well.
To catch you all up on other aspects, the combats have headed off to a new home. Still had a few pennies left over to cover the stags. Again, for all those that have offered I'll get back to you if doesn't shoot well.

Les, Just found a gorgeous set of Grashorn's stag grips with medallions. Now I need to find the t-grip. The last time I ordered one it took almost 2 months and I'm the impatient type

If ya gotta pull the grips to see the fact that it was a factory reblue it's not an issue. As said it was still a great deal, now go shoot the snot out of it, enjoy that one!
**Hold the phone, looking at the grip frame more closely while putting on the new stag grips I see the "R-Bi" in a rectangular box factory refinish mark on the left side of the grip frame. I rethink me getting a great deal.
Heck, I'd pay $700 for that even with the re-finish. It was refinished by S&W so still has a factory finish
In my opinion, there is nothing negative about the factory rework.
It was redone by the same company that built it originally- the same parts, bluing process and craftsman.
Other than the little stampings on the grip frame, it is the same as an original gun.

Still a grail gun. With the factory re-blue it just makes it easier to take to the range. And money wise, just look at what $700.00 would get you in a new gun. That always justifies the price and eases my mind in these situations.
When I read your follow up intro my first thought was, "oh oh, the gun didn't perform at the range..." If it's a shooter you still did good and I'd be happy to slip the 3 1/2" Model 27-2 in my safe.
I woulda been all over that gun had I seen it. And as previously mentioned, you can carry that one all day long and not worry about wear to the original finish! It really is purty.......and Patrick's grips are absolutely right for it! I have a 28 that had been damaged in a flood that I put a 3 1/2" 27 barrel on and had refinished. It also wears a pair of Grashorns, and a tgrip as well! It is a perfect package.

Thanks again for the votes of confidence in it still being a good buy. I still haven't gotten to the range, had stitches in my left hand (weak hand) ring finger I had hoped to have removed but had to wait til yesterday. Have a big wrap on it until later today but will be on the range Sunday.
Robertson didn't have N t-grips but I do have a BK adapter for it. Also just ordered a Threeperson style holster for it from a member so that'll be a perfect companion for it too. Now I need to get a couple of speedloaders as well. It never ends

I have been coming back and looking at this over and over as it is such a fine looking revolver ,I keep comparing it too what I am finding locally .You got a good deal .I too am a Patric Grashorn fan as I feel his craftsmanship and service not to mention how great his stocks look and feel are excellent and don't see how he sells them for the price he does .Thanks for posting and wow please give us a range report and some pics with that Three Persons rig with the gun .Now you are making a lot of us green .

Well either way...refinish or not...you got a great gun for a goid price...i love my 24-3 lew horton and would hate to sell mine...when i was looking for it...i would have gladly considered yours ...cant wait to hear how well it shoots...and love the grasshorn grips...i had a set for my 24-3.....with a tyler grip filler,..they are just about perfect
