Has anyone else made an ultralight 15-22.
I see some have made srb.
Question for you guys.
Really thinking about the pistol grip and stock weight.
Is there any gains for the skelton grip and battlelink stock?
I have an areo mono scope ring and leupold ultralight 3-9x scope.
10" barrel and taccom cut down handguard.
Dropped some serious weight!
Added abit back with ambi charging handle/ext mag release/ambi bolt/safety.
When fully collapsed, believe it or not, the balance point just behind the mag well.
Oh I ask also, is there such a thing as a barrel shroud that doesnt use up any threads or block the muzzle for a break?

Looks cool but I hope you have the proper paperwork. I don't know all of the nfa laws but if its not registered as a sbr you should delete that picture

@JeepinCO - what exactly did Luke79 say that got YOUR panties in a twist?

Luke79 made a simple, honest, truthful assessment, and he's relatively new. You could go a little lighter on him too, Sgt Hulka.

Yup, RickA posted a picture of an SBR, but Luke certainly didn't go all Francis on him... (mind you, if you wanted light, RickA, get rid of the quad rail, put on lighter sights - both the back up iron sights and the red dot.. $0.02).

To littlewolf's question - I don't see any major issue with lightening up the stock or pistol grip, if that is your preference. The quad rail is heavy (even cut down), would recommend using a carbon fiber or similar. One thing to consider (even though this is already a light firearm) is overall balance. Lighten it up too much and that recoil is going to be hell to control... :)

For clarification that's not an SBR. The only barrel I have for it is that 16" barrel clearly depicted above it. The flash hider is stuck on there for cosmetic purposes.

The quad rail is polymer and does not weigh much, either.

Funny Luke79 catches the pic but misses this:
10" barrel and taccom cut down handguard.

Re: OP. Like the concept. Not sure how to go about the process required to be legal, etc. Guess until that was done, a simple mockup as in your picture is all anyone can do. But, looks like once that process was completed, the resulting SBR would be a load of fun to use. Lots and lots of tactical type games where it would really shine. Sincerely. bruce.

So there's no shortened barrel under the quad rail in that picture? I see now why you consider it 'ultra light'.

How does it shoot... :)

Maybe I could go a little lighter on someone and maybe someone shouldn't jump to a conclusion that someone might be posting pics of an illegal SBR. Besides, it's a nice toy that Rick_A has. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I went and did a little searching and saw that I used that same meme on you when you went off on that guy for calling his 15/22 a toy. I guess now I know why you chimed in.

Finances allowing it may be a project for this year.

I will be setting up an NFA trust, engraving the lower with the trust name and address, and submitting a form one to the ATF. When the tax stamp is approved the barrel will be cut to 4.5" with a 2" linear muzzle brake threaded to it. My plan is to purchase a suppressor as well.

Currently it doesn't shoot at all. I could put the barrel on it but it would sure look silly.

I wish S&W still made the 15/22 pistol. I would definitely SBR one of those. I guess the outcome would be the same as your project. Although....it would be interesting to have a Sig brace or shockwave brace on it and no need for .gov to get involved.

If you are SERIOUS about doing that, I would recommend doing it SOONER, rather than later.

Executive Order 41P, now 41F was finalized earlier this month. This relates SPECIFICALLY to NFA items and trusts. Starting sometime in July of this year, all 'responsible' members of a trust (mixed review of what responsible includes) will need to submit fingerprints along with their Form 1 or Form 4.

At this point in time, ANY Form 1 (make an NFA item, eg, SBR) or Form 4 (transfer existing NFA item, eg, suppressor) that is POSTMARKED (ie, in the mail) prior to the official enforcement date (in July 2016) will be GRANDFATHERED in, and will NOT require fingerprints.

Note, in addition to fingerprints, all responsible members of the trust will be required (as of July 2016) to inform their Chief Law Enforcement Officer that they will be obtaining an NFA item. The CLEO does NOT need to approve said NFA item.

It'll cost you about $1000 to get a trust, SBR and suppressor ($200 x 2 stamps, $200-500 for a suppressor, and ~$100 for a DECENT trust, more if you go through a lawyer in person. My trust is lawyer drafted, but via a online service; I have contacted the lawyer multiple times and always had a very fast response time. ATF has been scrutinizing trusts recently, and mine has passed every time with 0 issues).

Something else to consider is an integral 15-22. Innovation Arms provides these for about $600.
Pros: 1 stamp, not 2, but it's still a short barrel (barrel + fixed suppressor = 16", which is what a 10" barrel + sparrow suppressor is). Bulk ammo stays subsonic, so no need to get subsonic ammo. It's only 4oz heavier, with suppressor, from the standard 15-22 with 16" barrel.

Cons: Cannot be used on another firearm. Cannot use a different handguard.

If you would like a recommendation for trusts, PM me.

Lol those are all my old threads.
Just wondering if there is fresh blood and new ways/options for an ultralight build.
Would swapping the stock and pistol grip gain any oz is what Im asking?
If its between .25 and .5lbs I doesnt seem worth it.
I should put my rifle on a scale for you guys.

Don't I know it.

I've got leads on everything. Depending on the suppressor I'm looking at $850-$900 to get it all done. I just had $3k in dental work done and am trying to reduce expenditures as much as possible.

I have other hosts for a supressor, so integral is not an option.

Little air wolf is in Canada. Different gun laws. Silly I believe he calls them... I may be new to the forum but I have read every thread since this sub forum got started. Learned a lot. I have way more invested in my rifle than I ever imagined but that is part of the enjoyment of it. Since most of the parts are interchangeable with other guns I currently own or want to own I don't think I have made any mistakes in purchasing upgrades. This is all thanks to the very knowledgeable people on this site.
