I had an email in my inbox today that says that Hillary Clinton has signed on to the "UN Small Arms Treaty" and the Obama administration has promised to work "hand in glove" with the UN on this. I have figured that the reason why the present administration had been pretty quiet on the gun issue was because something like this was in the air. The little I read about the treaty sounded pretty scary. Not only are our gunrights in jeopardy but our national sovereignity also. It looks like we better be ready to start writing our Senators on this.
Has anybody else heard anything on this? To my knowledge the NRA hasn't issued any statements at this point.

It has been discussed several times. The text of the proposed treaty is easy to find online. The U.S. insisted that language be added to specifically prohibit the treaty from impacting the constitutionally-guaranteed rights of private citizens or interfering with domestic arms trade.

Don't know why you think the NRA hasn't said anything. It's been discussed several time thru NRA-ILA news emails etc.
The US wording is just a sop to cover their butts.

I did some more research on this topic this evening and evidently this is old news. I don't know what the deal is with the group that sent me the email but when I googled UN Small Arms Treaty the newest hit I came up with is back in May. I assumed that because I had gotten the email today that this was late breaking news and something more had happened recently. I do know that I have gotten emails from the NRA concerning this since May.
Sorry to waste everyones time!

"Hillary signs UN Arms Treaty" makes a great lead-in to a fund raiser. All of the 2nd Amendment organizations have to raise money, I knows this sort of thing gets peoples attention and becomes an effective wedge, sort of “fund raising 101”.
I don’t resent the effort; I just pass on to something more immediate.

Hillary and O can sign the treaty all they want to, but if they can't persuade 67 United States Senators to agree, it means nothing.

US Constitution; Article II, Section 2, The President . . . "shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur;"

provided two thirds of the Senators present concur;"[/I]

They had a Senate vote today with exactly two Senators. Yes, it was "procedural", but no one knew it was happening until it had happened. Don't think they wouldn't try to slip something like this in.

Bingo. 90% of the crap that comes from pundits on *both* sides of the political aisle falls into this category. It's all smoke and mirrors, and it would be funny if it didn't distract us from *real* issues.

Nevertheless, we never seem to tire of hearing the folks on our team cry wolf. Some say we are a nation of sheep; I think we're a nation of lemmings.

Such a meeting may have been procedural, but it does not bind anyone or anything voted on without a Senate quorum. It can pass all of these small committees they conjure up, but with no full Senate quorum and vote it is not binding.

This has come up just recently on a number of gun forums I visit. It seems that it's a great fund raiser for some organizations. And then there's the panicked dealers who were going full speed at the start and now are seeing the recession that they thought would miss them.

I couldn't count the number of time HR45 has been brought up as "stealth bill now being pushed" panic now!

Sometimes we're our own worst enemy - I give you the ammo shortage of the last two years

"The sky is falling, NRA is doing nothing about this, send US your money!!!!"

Oh, please....

There’s a price to pay for all this internet speed. Part of that price is that misinformation travels just as fast as the truth. They see this every day at NRA-ILA, where staff answers hundreds of phone calls, letters and especially e-mails. Many are from people trying to get the scoop on the latest wild story they’ve heard.
