Today I purchased the first pound of Unique that I have seen in nearly a year. $23.50. I've been trying other powders lately with good results but I still call Unique my favorite. I hope this is an indicator of good things to come for ammo and components.

I've had good luck with Universal,which is said to be just like Unique but cleaner and easier metering .

You are fortunate. Unique is my most favored handgun powders. It is the powder on which I depend for loading cast lead bullets for use in my 1903 and 1903-A3 rifles. It gives very predictable results through the scalding heat of summer and the bone breaking cold of winter.

Must not be many reloaders in AZ. The only full shelves I see here are when the LGS prices everything at anywhere from a 50% to 200% price increase and even then it still moves. 1,000 Tula primers for $75??? I guess someone wants them bad enough because yes they did sell them.

It warms my heart to see folks making a generous profit from panic buyers' foolishness.

I just picked up 4 lbs($22 per) of Unique last week. It seems thats the only powder i can find around here besides Bullseye. I wish i could find some 231/Hp38. Pretty much every WW or Hodgdon powder is nonexistent. One can only wish.

About 3 months ago, I'd been looking for W231 for some time when I called around the LGS's checking and one place had some. When I went over to buy it, the owner acted very matter of fact about having several pounds of it on hand, in spite of the fact that he hadn't had any in months. $29.95 + tax.
Last saturday I was at the local Sportsmans Warehouse, which keeps a list of "primers in stock" taped to the sales counter. They had some Winchester small pistol so I grabbed a carton. I don't shoot that much so that'll hold me for quite a while. $38 + tax. Glad I waited-- when I asked about WSP's, the owner of the first place told me he had some stashed at home for his own use but he could bring in a carton for me.....for $50. No thanks.

My recipe for success in finding powder and primers...

Pull up a web page for several of your favorite vendors and your desired powders/primers.

Refresh those pages every few minutes.

When you see your stuff available, buy it RIGHT NOW. And buy a LOT. Buy enough that you won't have to do that again for several months or a year at least.

As I type this I'm seeing Unique, Bullseye, AA#2, AA#5, RedDot, HP-38 powders, CCI/Rem/Win/Fed small pistol primers all available. Powders range from $18-$28 per lb. Primers are $20-$31 per thousand. There's lots of other powders available that I don't use. Large pistol primers always seem to be more available than small but I don't use any large.

I buy primers at least 5000-10,000 at a time. 10k primers lasts me about six months.

The smallest amount of powder I typically buy is 2x 1 lb if I'm trying a new powder. If I can buy 2x 8lb (or more) of something I'm familiar with I buy that.

Buy in bulk, when the stuff is available at a price you like. Don't buy 1000 primers at a time. Don't buy 1lb powders if you can help it.

I do the same for motor oil and filters, laundry detergent, canned food, bars of soap, TP etc. It's not about "prepping for zombies", it's about not having to go to the store every few days AND it's about saving money buying in bulk when the price is right.
